If we purchased a 50 point contract through resale as our first purchase, would that still be considered a true dvc membership(with the ap discount)? Or is there a minimum amount of points you need to have to be recognized?

:) You would be treated like any other DVC member, in fact that is a very good way to get your foot in the door. Many people start out paying cash for their smaller membership and just add on as the funds become available.

It's a true membership with rights to all DVC discounts. :thumbsup2

I bought 50 points via resale, and I receive all the perks and privileges of being a DVC member. It was a great decision for me to buy resale, there was no way I could afford the 160 minimum through Disney. I do hope to add on one day though!

A 160 point package is really just more than I need or want. Maybe a 50 point package would be right for me as well.

This is exactly what we did in Nov, 2009. We have all the same perks as any other DVC member. We purchased AP's, TIW and used the DVC member discounts. But beware, you'll suffer from "addonitis" real soon!! :lmao:

That's what we did also. We started with a 30 point contract in Nov 08 just to get our foot in the door. We've since added on twice, once thru Disney for 30 more and now going the resale route for an additional 50. Once this sale goes thru, we'll have 110 points. Still not the total we eventually want but we're getting there.

I think this was the best way for us because it allowed us to buy without financing and gave us time to re-evaluate exactly what our goal is, point wise, instead of jumping in with both feet first and then deciding we bought too many points (is that possible..lol). My only regret is that we didn't start the process sooner.

BTW, saintstickets (great username) is right, addonitis will attack soon after closing your first deal.

That's what we did. We bought a 50pt contract with 50 banked points at HH. The day our points were in the system we went to the Doorway to Dreams opening and bought more points at SSR.
So much for starting small. I don't regret it one bit.

We also started with 50 points, purchased in July 2009. It came loaded with banked points, so on our first trip as members we were able to stay for a week in a studio in January. It was a relatively inexpensive way to get our foot in the door. We love it, and now we want lots more points. LOL

We are ready and anxious to add on, but just haven't seen the right 50 point contract on the resale market.

One thing to keep in mind that I did not know: once you join, if you want to do a small add on thru Disney, you'll have to keep the same use year. To add on thru Disney in a new UY, you'll have to buy the minimum point buy in, like a new member. (We want a 2nd use year when we do our add on.)

This is just what I did with a very small OKW contract. Now I have sold that and accumulated my VGC points .
