Buyers regret anyone?

Ugh, we just bought 210 points at AKV (resale) and I was soooo excited, but now I'm feeling some buyers remorse. We paid it all in cash, no financing......but man, that would have been a nice big chunk off our mortgage. Why am I regretting it now????? :confused3 :confused3

Anyway, too late for regrets, right? I'll just have to enjoy it for awhile.

Did anyone else buy in a fit of excitement and then regret it?

P.S. Tell me I'm going to love it!

I think everyone worries if they did the right thing after making a large purchase. But of course you did the right thing! Welcome home neighbor! :goodvibes

No buyer regret on our points. But we did decide to pay off our mortgage last week and will wait on BLT. It's not going anywhere.

If it makes you feel any better, I just purchased 200 points at AKV and plan on paying it all off without financing. I should be getting the paperwork next week. Plus, I'm getting married in a year and a half so I have so many other expenses to worry about as well! But you just have to remember that now you will have 50 years of great vacations to spend with your family! I think it's a great investment and you made the right choice. :) But I guess I am biased since I am a member (and my parents have been members for 3 years) so I've already experienced some great vacations with DVC.

We didn't buy in a fit of excitement; we bought for my 40th bday in 1993. And we've had so many good times and anticipate so many more. No regrets. Welcome home!:wizard:

I regret I don't own more points does that count? Doubt you will see many negative comments on these boards. But yes it is a big chunk of change and it had me scratching my head a few times. Then I went back to my "research" and number crunching and realized for our situation it is the right thing to do............now lets get that stock market back up so I can buy some more points!!!!!!!!!

Just take the money you save vs paying CRO each vacation and just pay that much extra on your mortgage each year.

You're going to love it. This is pretty normal. We plopped down 10K on our membership and I swear it took an entire month for my husband to regain his color. He looked physically ill and I swear at night he kept mumbling 10K, 10K in his sleep.
We're getting ready to repeat the process since my oldest is getting ready for college. We know the money is well spent but we keep looking at this kid and saying $17,000 bucks and he won't even take out the garbage. :lmao:

We've enjoyed every vacation at the world. not disappointed yet.

I think after signing all the paperwork, it sinks in pretty fast on just how much money your spending:eek: On the bright side of things, I checked on the Disney web site how much we would spend just for lodging...$5000 if not members:scared:
As you can see, joining DVC will pay for itself in just a few trips!! Enjoy:thumbsup2

Do you want honesty or just reassurance? I'm going to give you the honesty since you have already gotten the reassurance from everyone else.

While we did not buy in a fit of excitement, I admit that I did not go in as informed as I could/should have been and I take personal responsibility for that. And while I have continued to add-on, I have a love/hate relationship with DVC. I do not think I am alone, but to be clear: I am in love with the IDEA of DVC and I hate some of the ACTUALITY of DVC.

What does this mean? As a Deluxe Resort only WDW visitor, my hope was that DVC offered that type of accomodations at a slightly reduced cost for those who forfeited the investment use of our funds. This is not to say that I thought it was an investment, but I knew I was trading my ability to invest those funds for reduced cost accomodations. My hope was that they would be of the deluxe variety and they are not. They could be deluxe, but they are not. DVC Resorts are roomy moderates with kitchenettes; some might even say that the moderate resorts have better services. For cost reasons, people always say if you are okay with Value Resorts, then DVC may not be for you. I say that if you want Deluxe, DVC may not be for you. But what upsets me most is that DVC Resorts could be so much better and I expected better from Disney, and so begins my hate (or at least disappointment) of the actuality that is DVC.

Besides the accomodation issues, there have been other disappointments along the way. Changes in terms and policies (the one transfer per year and "new" reservation and waitlist system come to mind!), lack of any real perks (Annual Passholders get better perks in my opinion!), and less than Disney-magic treatment from DVC Member Services and DVC Resort Cast Members. Overall it has been a very unmagical experience on many levels.

So why don't I just sell and move on??? It is the hope that DVC will live up to its' potential. Maybe I'm like a battered wife who hopes her husband will stop beating the crud out of her and become the loving man she knows deep down is in there. I just think DVC has such potential and I'm unwilling to give up ... yet!

No remorse here! I can't wait to buy more points - when the time is right...

We had a tiny bit at first because we were affraid of never staying at the Poly again. We got over that after staying at my beloved VWL, but we also stay at the Poly once in a while.

Now we have some remorse since they wadded up the booking policy.

We had two regrets - 1) that we took so long to finally buy in, and 2) that DW talked me in to scaling back the number of points we initially wanted to buy by about 50 points - oh well, of course, that's what adding on is for, now isn't it? The time to add on for us is coming soon though.

Wow......quite a rant!! the only "luxury" resort at WDW I ever stayed at prior to being a DVC owner was Contemporary and I was not impressed. I personally feel like like the DVC resorts I've stayed at (BWV, SSR, OKW) are much better than CR and the others I've stayed at (Ft Wilderness cabins, POR, ASM, etc etc). I must be one of those "value" people because I love the DVC resorts!!! :rotfl:

Back to the original topic: I regret buying my most recent purchase of AKL 160 through Disney (I did get a great deal, though!) only because of how cheap the resale market is right now! I should have bought resale instead!!

Oh well!

I respectfully disagree with much of this, but mainly that it's a glorified moderate.
We get
-- Valet Parking
-- Deluxe Fitness Rooms
-- Deluxe Restaurants
-- Room Service
-- Deluxe Theming
-- Every other amenity the associated deluxe hotel receives.

My hope was that they would be of the deluxe variety and they are not. They could be deluxe, but they are not. DVC Resorts are roomy moderates with kitchenettes; some might even say that the moderate resorts have better services.

I have to disagree with this too. After stays at moderates such as POR, POFQ and CBR, they are nowhere near as nice as the DVC resorts, nor do they have anywhere near to the deluxe amenities of the DVC resorts I own at!

It was a bit scary at first. We bought from home over the phone. Then A month later realized we didn't buy enough to do what we wanted so we added on. We had never stayed in a DVC resort and spent a lot of money. Since then we have added on again. Were addicted. Your going to love it.

I have 2 regrets.

The first is that we did not buy years ago. All the money that we spent going to Disney & staying on property could have gone into our membership instead of just being gone :wizard:

The second was not buying where we want to stay. We bought at SSR and should have purchased at BCV, WLV, or AKV. The new treehouse villas make it a little better, but I will never stay at SSR (too big & too remote). Unless we stay at the THV, we will never have the 11 month booking advantage for when we want to use the bulk of our points.
