Is there any advantage or discount to doing it before we get there? (5 day hopper if it makes a difference)

Thanks

Depending on where you buy it from, there can be discounts.

Right now, Orbitz has buy 4, get 5th day free and buy 3, get 4th day free Parkhoppers until the end of 2014 dates.

Buy ahead to save your self from having one more line to wait in. I have always done it directly from Disney, which doesn't save me anything $ wise. But, some of the online discount offers still require that you bring a voucher to the ticket window and redeem it for your park tickets. So, just watch for that if you don't buy from Disney and decide you want to avoid the ticket window at the parks.

If you are a AAA member you can get discount day passes as well as annual passes at your local office

Tickets purchased at the gate don't include Magic Morning, so if you were wanting to use that one day, you will want to purchase in advance.

Purchasing online from Disney is what we generally do. I don't want to spend time in a line at a ticket booth and I've never had a problem with their electronic delivery system for the tickets. You just print out the pdf they e mail to you and hand them directly to the CMs at the turnstiles.

In this day and age, I can't think of one good reason to wait until you get there. With all of the discounts available, and the time savings, buying tickets at the window seems silly....unless you're just really nostalgic about it.

I want to avoid the lines, and not have to go to the ticket stand. Could anyone share a link to the Disney site where I can buy my tickets.

Along the same lines, I want to make sure that our tickets are all on our room keys as well, so is there any difference in buying tickets once we check in at GCH?

At the DLR, tickets are not attached to room keys. You will have to hold them separately. You can use your room key from the DLR hotels to charge to your room.

Thanks! Not at all what I expected. Not sure why this is but now I know how it works.

I was also expecting to be able to combine ticket and room key into one. So glad I read this

This was a surprise to me and seems kind of strange. Also trying to figure out how to do 6 days in the parks. The story I got is that you have to buy a 5 day and a 1-day separately, which seems even more ridiculous. I hope there is a better way!

Not sure why the DLR doesn't attach room tickets to hotel keys. I am guessing there is some kind of technology problem, but that is pure speculation.

As far as 6 days in the park, there is no way to add additional days past 5 days. The only exception I have heard of is for our Australian friends who can purchase 10 day passes I believe.

And yes, this is definitely annoying. I had hoped that Disney would allow guests of the hotel to buy additional days, as it would be easy for them to verify your length of stay. But alas, they have not.

So even if you get a park hopper at the gate it doesn't include the magic morning??

We are arriving in Anaheim next Wednesday and were planning on stopping at the ticket booth sometime in the afternoon to purchase the SoCal city pass and then not going into the parks until the next day. Can we do that? Are the ticket booths busy all day? The pass includes a magic morning.

You can find discounts elsewhere so buying them ahead of time is always best in my opinion. If you happen to be Canadian like me who's looking into 5 day passes remember our dollar against the USA suuuuuuuuucks right now. Id say check out a place like Flight Center if you are in Canada. You dont want to end up paying more by going with a US company at the moment. You would probably pay more at the gate too due to exchange rate.

The SoCal city pass I think is handled differently. There was discussion about that on a recent Dis podcast, and the podcasters seemed to think a SoCal city pass purchased at the gate would include Magic Morning. The city pass website also doesn't make a distinction between pre-purchase and purchasing at the gate. A Disneyland-only ticket purchased at the ticket booth wouldn't include Magic Morning.

From Disneyland's website:
Magic Morning allows one early admission into select attractions, stores, entertainment and dining locations at Disneyland Resort Park before the park opens to the general public.

For admission, each member of your travel party (ages 3 and older) must have a valid 3-day or longer Disneyland Resort theme park ticket purchased in advance of arrival. To enhance the Magic Morning experience, please arrive at least one hour and 15 minutes prior to regular park opening.
