Buy resale at BW or BCV from Disney?

We are trying to decide how to buy our DVC this summer. I understand that where your home is you can reserve 11 months out and other places 7 months.

We're staying at the YC this summer so we'll finally get to try the infamous Stormalong bay-lol. Now if we fall in love with it I guess that'll make our decision but the $$ we can save through resale for the BW is very tempting!

If we buy a resale at the BW and maybe one year want to stay elsewhere, like BCV, how hard would it be to get it?

We're a family of 4 and wouldn't mind cramming in a studio now but when the kids are older we'd need more space. We're looking to spend a max of 15,000.

What do you DVC experts think we should do?

Thank you in advance for your help! :)

BCV availability really depends on your travel patterns. It will be hard to get for major holidays. I called last week and was told I could have any size room (except GV) at any resort the end of August or beginning of Sept. That works for us since we don;t go back to school until Sept. 5. I made a July ressie back in March for a studio without a problem.

Hope this helps
Sandy

In case you didn't know, BWV is also available through Disney right now.

I had BW as home, and I love every bit of it. I stayed in BCV last Aug, and had no problem getting a 2-bedroom 5 months out (waitlisted and got it in 2 weeks).

It depends on when you travel. If you want to stay in BCV during major holidays with smaller room, then you should have BCV as home. Otherwise, go for the cheaper resale.

From my experience, smaller rooms seems always available in BW. And the place is not as hectic as BCV. I still prefer BW to BCV.

We just bought BCV straight from Disney with the Magic Beginnings discount (effectively, you give them back your first years points, and they give you $10/point off the $84/point price). With that discount, 150 points cost $11,100. Since we bought through Disney, there was no closing costs. Be careful to factor that is. we looked at resale as well. With $400-$600 in closing and a $100 transfer fee, we were looking at an expense of from $4-$4.33/pt just for resale, and none for Disney. That made resale look good to only below $69/point.

Because we wanted to use StormAlong Bay, we decided BCV would be our choice. I found only one BCV on the timeshare sites, probably due to the fact that it is so new. The price, was $74/point, so Disney was actually the cheaper deal. Coupled with the fact that I put the deal on my credit card, getting points (approx. $110 worth) & having 0% interest until December, it was good for us. Also, the whole deal took 1 1/2 weeks from start to finish vs. ROFL with a resale.

The downside is, we didn't get any current or banked points, and our first points 'arrive' in December.

So, to make a long story short, if you are considering BCV, I would suggest buying through Disney. If you are considering BW. I would check to see how you can do through resale, as you might save some money if the price is below $69/point.

You're welcome palmtreegirl. Good luck with your decision. I found that these pictures of StormAlong Bay through me over the edge towards BCV. I have two little girls who are going to flip when they see it for the first time.
