Ok I have a question. DH and I are seriously considering buying into AKV :cool1: and we already have a trip booked for 4 nights at BCV. I have only paid the deposit and we are wondering if we can buy DVC and use the points to pay for the room instead of paying the balance on our trip. I'm guessing we may have to cancel and re-book? :confused3 Anyone know?

The rooms set aside for cash reservations cannot be reserved with DVC points. So you will most likely need to book the room through MS (member services) using your DVC points and then cancel the cash reservation (can you still get your deposit back?).

A word of warning. Often times there are villas and studios available for cash reservations but NONE available for DVC points.

I didn't know that rooms were set aside for cash reservations. So a DVC member who wants a room might not get one because a certain number of rooms are set aside? No I probably won't be able to get my deposit back, but if we could get a room using points I guess it would be worth it. I guess we should talk to member services. Thanks for the info!

Disney retains a small percentage of the resort to use for maintenance, etc. So if they have to paint or recarpet, they use the Disney percent to cover the reservations for those time. In addition, if a member trades out to stay in another Disney resort or go on the Disney Cruise, they take the points a member used for that trip and those get sold by Disney through central reservations to recoup the expenses.

Finally, 60 days out, all remaining reservations are given to Disney to try and sell through central reservations. These can sometimes be called back if they haven't been sold already and used by a member on points.

You'll want to talk to your guide about your reservation instead of Member Services. You'll have to be a member to talk to them officially.

When is your trip booked? Rooms on points could already be sold out. Be sure there is availability before you cancel anything you have!

We have the same problem as we are looking to buy in the next couple of weeks and have flights booked for October 10th and are staying 14 nights. At the moment all DVC is sold out for studios for a full 14 nights we could maybe do a split stay but otherwise with the 'double points' we will use them for a moderate hotel.

Since you are talking about a time period during the Food and Wine Festival and a studio......Almost NO chance of getting that at BCV now. BCV is the most popular location during F&W, and it is also one of the smallest DCV resorts. Not a good combination for your time period.

I know the F&W is popular but surely not all studios are fully booked?? I would of thought OKW or SSR may still have occupancy, but apparently not!

I was looking to make a spontaneous trip and there was "no room @ the inn" ....anywhere for my 10/6-16.
So...split staying @ the CR (1st time) & Poly during that time period.
Oh...I'll suffer thru it !! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We bought today :cloud9: and our guide is going to be able to book us 2 nights at BC and 2 at YC. :cool1:

Claire, it is quite possible that all the studios are fully booked. It is a very, very popular time. Planning and using your booking windows are crucial at this time of year. It seems that F&W just keeps getting more and more popular. It is a great time to be there!
