We did it! Talked to our guide (Laurie Bailie) today and we are doing a 250 point add-on at BLT. :cool1: She suggested we do 2-125 point contracts vs. a single 250 point contract, easier to sell down the road and/or leave to each of our 2 kids. She said this would still qualify for the $5 per point discount. Is there any downside to doing it this way? Does 2 equal contracts make the most sense, or would some othe split make more sense?

Guide is correct. Lower point contracts tend to be easier to sell and having two at the same resort is really no different when it comes to use, banking or borrowing, from having one. If you were a new purchaser there would be the downside of paying 2 closing costs but add-on purchasers pay no closing costs. 125/125 is fine (particularly if thought is to split later between kids) but could also consider 150/100. 50 point contracts can also be good sellers but at BLT with its high point costs per night, I think 100 is going to be the low number that many resale buyers will want to buy.

You do have one issue you may want to ask your guide. First 1,000 buyers of 160 points or more at BLT get their name on a plaque as a founder member. If that means anything to you (there is nothing else special attached to it) you may want to assure that the combined contracts will be treated as meeting that 160 minimum before you do the split.

I have split all of my contracts into small numbers. This way I have an easy way to give them to my two kids. In fact today I bought 2 80 point contracts at BLT.

thumbs up to your guide for pro-actively suggesting this.

There is no downside but several significant advantages to having larger amounts spilt into smaller contracts. Contracts under 100 points seem to hold market value the best. If I was buying 250 points, I'd even consider five, 50 point contracts, or maybe 75,75, 100. :thumbsup2

Great recommendation from your guide!

My 200 point add-on at BLT was structured as four 50-point contracts.

Kudos to your guide for suggesting this as I don't think many do.

We are buying in again as we had to sell a few years back and after selling those contracts I said I will never have a contract of more than 100 points again. I was thinking of buying all 100 point contacts but now the thought of 50 pt contracts is in my head (thanks DVC Mike)!

Silly question but...

Are you able to split existing contracts into different size contracts trhough Disney? If not, can you seel only a portion of points in a single contract?

No,only Disney can break up a contract. If you sell, you have to sell an entire contract, not just part of one. If you have add-ons, you can sell the master or any of the add-ons.

I had one 175, one 75, one 50 and two 100 point contracts. All with the same UY except for the 50 point. The 50 point is a separate master contract. I sold one 100 point and the 75 point. I'm in the process of selling the 50 point. I will still have a 175 point and 100 point contract left. I can sell either one if I (or both) if I choose to, but I cannot break them up into smaller contracts.
