Does anyone know what the admission for adults & children is to the butterfly farm at St. Maarten? I have looked over their website & searched the trip reports but haven't found this info. We are thinking about going on our own, not with the DCL excursion since we aren't interested in the shopping part with the kids & don't want to be gone for 4 hours. TIA!

I don't remember the exact amount, but it was less than $10 pp We did it on our own as well. We took a taxi from the port & we had him come back in an 1 1/2 hours. Then he took us to a beach for the rest of the time.

DrCaven....

May I enquire what the taxi cost for the triangle route? I imagine if it was anything less then $150 then you saved compared to the shore excursion desk cost for 2 adults and a child.

Thanks in advance! :rotfl:

I think we we spent about $40 - $50 for the three stops. Getting to Coral World was ~$20, to the beach was ~$15 & then back to ship was ~$15-$20

Even better than any $ savings is we werent on a set schedule, so if we wanted more time at Coral World or the beach it was not a problem...

With 2 people, we saved $ over the DCL trip. In addition, if you visit the tourist info booth (right off the ship) and pick up one of their free info magazines, there are coupons for a few dollars off each admission to Coral World and the Butterfly Farm. It's not a huge amount, but worth the 2 minutes it took to get the book.

Definitely do it on your own. The cabs seemed safe, and I think this was one of the places where the prices were government regulated. It was nice to be able to stay as long (or as short) as we wanted.

I wouldn't do the island tour on my own--those roads were scary! Glad I wasn't driving.

We've rented cars on San Juan and St Thomas (and in Europe). We just reserved a car for St Mart thru Budget (only $50 including taxes). It seems to cost about the same as a Taxi in a triangle but we will be able to take the degree of "control" one step further. We have two kids and we can keep them cool and comfortable while running about. PLUS I like to shoot tons of photos - so being able to stop frequently for what-ever and when-ever is a huge plus.

Thanks for the precautionary advice! :flower:

I am also considering just getting a van for us to be driven to the farm, then around the island. From what I have heard, the drivers are willing to pull over often. Just tell them that you would like to take alot of pictures. I would rather pay the 50 to a taxi than try to find my way around the island for a few hours.
