Butterbeer?

From the Potter fansites' review of the food at WWoHP:

"It was thick, the fuzz, then rich, then colder and thinner at the bottom. A few more drinks and I was sure that the substance I was drinking was from another world. I don't know how they did it, but the butterbeer feels like it changes density as you drink. It's chilled, too - the butterbeer will be kept just above 32 degrees when it is served in the park. As for the taste, it is described as a cross between "butterscotch and shortbread" - I think that's probably accurate. I'll also say that I've become a fan of a personal homemade butterbeer recipe involving creme soda, rum and schnapps - but this, a non alcoholic beverage for park guests of all ages, far closer matches what is likely served in Hogsmeade of literature. What surprised me was that, the more I drank, the more I liked it. It is a solid beverage, a solid "brew" if you will, that has a consistent taste and is not too sweet or strange. It holds its flavor the whole way through, and let me just say the cream on top is excellent for giving the drinker a butterbeer moustache. I'm finding difficulty in describing it more, except to say that it must be tried and will not disappoint.

A frozen 'icee' version of the butterbeer will also be available in the park. After finishing our butterbeer, we tried it, too. It really is a testament to how solid a drink is, when you can make a frozen version of it accentuating the flavor that doesn't completely ruin it."

^^^^^^^

That sums it up pretty well. It's served cold, or "frozen" (slushie style). You can taste the butterscotch-ness. It's very sweet and very filling.

Does anyone know if the Butterbeer has any kind of dairy?

I saw a review of one of the early visits to WWOHP and it made the butterbeer sound outrageously expensive. I'm hoping it was just a poorly written article because there is no way I'd pay the price they quoted. Here is the quote:

Inside Wizarding World, they purchased Hogwarts lanyards plus three rounds of frozen butterbeer in souvenir mugs. (Butterbeer tab: $28).

Now, you can interpret that to say that they bought 3 souvenir mugs of butterbeer for $28 or the 5 people in the party had 3 rounds, 15 butterbeers for $28. One is reasonable, the other is way out of my comfort zone. Perhaps someone can clarify it.

Can anyone tell us the actual price of the butterbeer? How are prices in the Three Broomsticks in general?

wonder how many calories? :scared:

Also, I wonder if Universal refillable mugs can be refilled with Butterbeer? I know they CAN be filled with Moose Juice and Goose Juice on Suess Island - but it costs slightly more than the typical 1.79-cent refill charge.

yeah thanks! you're a big help :rolleyes1
;)

Unless you plan on making butterbeer a regular part of your diet or you have some sort of disease like diabetes then it doesn't matter if it's 100 calories per glass or 10,000.

In my younger days I was big into weightlifting and I faithfully read a column by a man who was Senior Mr. Olympia and had 2% bodyfat, which is amazing. Someone asked him what he did on holidays like Thanksgiving. He wrote a long response about how he went to his inlaws, where he ate everything including 2 desserts. His point was that it's your overall lifestyle that makes a difference, not one holiday splurge. I would consider butterbeer to be a holiday splurge.

Believe me...I know it's a lifestyle...

I already splurge on vacation...indulge in MANY margaritas at Mville :rolleyes1

I do tend to ease up a bit on vacation (after all, it IS 2 wks we go away)...but after a 5 night cruise (and you know food and cruises  ), I don't want to OVER indulge. I don't stick to the regular exercise routine on vacation either...so, that doesn't help matters....

So, talking 2 weeks..a HALF a month...I still gotta watch a lil bit.

I'll probably have a taste of niece's and hope I don't love it. If I do...I'm in trouble!
:sad2:

The prices are reasonable for a theme park, and the portions are HUGE.

I don't think they are. I want to say only the butterbeer steins are refillable. If anyone can confirm/deny, that would be great.

The calorie count is probably waaaay too high. I'm going to have to spend extra time at the gym to work off the amount of butterbeer I plan on having this summer.

Am I the only one who thought butterbeer would be warm? Like a warm cider or cocoa kind of drink. The cold will be refreshing in the heat, but I wish they would come up with a warm kind during the winter.

Who knows- they might introduce a warm version as the summer wanes and the days of people wanting warm drinks get closer. :D

I think that we'll split a butterbeer. We can always get more if we like it.

I can't imagine how fattening these are! They sound very rich.

Someone asked about Butterbeer price in the souvenir mug. According to Inside the Magic it was $8.50 and there was apparently a small discount on refills but I didn't see what the cost was for that. There is also a cheaper version of Butterbeer in a plastic cup that I think was about $4.

I also want to know if Butterbeer has Dairy or is Vegan friendly. Have a friend who's going with me who is vegan. So if anyone works there, or gets to visit in the next couple of weeks and can ask a Butterbeer TM if they know that would be appreciated.

Thanks

Also, can anyone tell me if it is nut free? I imagine it is but my sister is VERY allergic to all kinds of nuts.

Jumping onto the last two questions, does anyone know if Universal has ingredient information READILY AVAILABLE at their food locations? Our 15yo has a soy allergy.

We've just started planning a 2 week extended family vacation for next summer and must must must get to WWoHP! And we're all hoping that shorty nephew makes it to 48"......
