But Rhett! Where Shall I Go? What Shall I do? Frankly, m'dear... a MAY 2010 PTR

Yes, the orange chicken was from the counter service restaurant in China. Can't remember the name of the place.

I'm gonna check out their menu. It might fit a need for one of our days. Thanks!

Oooh- I read that someone got a free dining pin for October the other day- maybe it might come your way.
Yay for a new car!:goodvibes

Okay- I must know what Shawarma is?:confused3 I really do like Sunshine Seasons- but I have heard of soem people not liking it. Yorkshire fish place is one I'd love to try- but nothing on the menu would suit DH so I'll just wait till I go without him. yeah right.

Biergarten- it sounds like so much fun-- and I really do like German food- but isn't it a buffet? We can't eat there if it is.

Teppan Edo--- yep- definitely thinking hard about that one b/c I've heard such great things about it lately.

Okay - fingers crossed for Free Dining!! I find that PINs seem to make their way to Canada just a little bit later than to the US (there's always threads along those lines on the Canadian board) but I don't care so long as it comes eventually :thumbsup2

How to describe Shawarma...it's very good, but it might send your germ-o-meter rising. It's essentially meat (lamb, chicken, beef, etc.) cooked on a vertical spit, then shaved into a wrap/pita with veggies. The most important ingredient is the garlic sauce that comes with it. Here's a wiki reference for you to peruse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawarma

Yeah, Biergarten is a buffet, so I guess you won't be eating there. You could always stop in Germany for the beer!

Teppan Edo - do it! It's great food, fun show and interaction, and you get to see exactly how they prepare everything so you won't be squiked out! ;)

On our recent trip we ate at Teppan Edo (just posted our review in my TR) and loved it!! We also enjoyed Tutto Italia - awesome food and service! ;) But we were on DDP, so didn't care about prices.
We've enjoyed LeCellier and hope to go back.
CS - mexican - okay, nothing to write home about.
Chinese - Lotus Blossom - pretty decent, we've had the orange chicken and egg rolls, but it is not any better than the place at our local mall.
Morrocco -- YUMMY! I think I got some kind of sampler and loved it! I grew up eating middle eastern food so it was right up my alley!
I've gotten a nice glass of wine at Italy before. and we've snacked on funnel cakes from the kiosk outside American Adventure.
Oh, we ate breakfast at Sunshine Seasons - that was pretty good.
I think that's it for Epcot.
AK - We've had CS at Yak and Yeti - honey chicken - I wasn't impressed. I thought it needed more flavor. I think we ate at Pizza Safari another time too. Nothing special.
I have heard really good things about the Y&Y TS though, and would like to try it. I won't bother with the Donald's Tusker House breakfast for you - it's a buffet. But a good one for those who will eat at a buffet!

So about AK food...we went to FTB also for lunch. We all had the bbq ribs. My boys and wife like the ribs, I thought they were just OK - I think I only ate 2 ribs. I like the cornbread muffin the best and the onion rings.

As for Rainforest, been to the ones in DTD, AK, DL - to me they are hit or miss. The one at AK was good, but the food wasn't that hot. I like my food really hot when it is served. It was really busy and loud there. Lots of cranky kids after visiting a theme park.

The DTD at WDW was just OK - we didn't have any reservations and were initially told that it would be a 2.5 hour wait for a table for 6, however, they somehow slipped us in after waiting under 5 minutes. The food was OK - I felt rushed to order and the server forgot to refill drinks and check on us.

I have been to the DL one countless times. The food is alright here, if you don't go when it is crazy mad. I have had great meals and OK meals here - like I said, hit or miss. I don't go out of my way to go here because you can't talk to people because it is so freaking loud. Kids love it because their noise blends in with the animal noises constantly droning on. I go here because my wife or our friends want to go here.

Enough said! - Sea

I'm really enjoying hearing everyone's ideas and opinions on different restaurants.

I think what I have to keep in mind is that, like a hotel, you have to just find what works for you. No two experiences will ever be the same, even if you like a restaurant, they sometimes have their bad days.

So- I'm on a mission to try lots of different places.
However- Animal Kingdom stumps me. It really does.
We don't spend a ton of time in this park. We like it, it's fun, I just think I'm not spending enough time there to appreciate it.

With that said- my list of restaurants we've eaten at--
(there aren't many!)

Animal Kingdom~

Counter Service:

Flame Tree Barbeque: We really thought this was pretty good! What we didn't like about it were all the birds and ducks that came running as soon as we sat down. There's just something terribly wrong with a duck wanting to suck down a piece of Chicken.:confused3
We've only eaten here once- I got the smoked chicken, DH got the Pork sandwich and a salad, and the kids got the drumsticks. The area where the tables are is beautiful. On a later trip, during the Year of a Million Dreams, DH and I were "Dreamed" a certificate--- we helped open Flame Tree one morning. Lots of yelling and beating and hollering in order to do it. It was fun. I would definitely eat here again.

Espresso, Coffee & Pastry--Entrance Plaza: coffee fix, of course. We always order the biggest cup we can and sip it on the way to Everest. Pretty good.

Table Service:

Yak and Yeti - We ate here and I thought it was pretty good. Dh really didn't care for what he got. He had the Stir-Fried Beef and Broccoli, I had the Sweet and Sour Chicken. I tasted his beef and the brown sauce it was in was really bland- tasted like it needed "Something" but not sure what? We also ordered the Chicken Lo mein and the kids shared Crispy Honey Chicken. We also got the Pot stickers and I liked them as well. All in all, a good meal, except for DH's. We will return I'm sure at some point.

Rainforest Cafe- We've eaten at this one in AK as well as the one in Disneyland. We are not fans, unfortunately. The first time we ate at one was at AK. I ordered the chop salad and DH and I shared the crab cakes. It was not nasty- it was just a so so meal that I felt was not worth what it cost. So we tried again when we were in DL and it confirmed my thoughts.
We will not be back.

ANd so- that's the only places we've eaten at. I'd love to hear if you have eaten at a reastaurant other than those that was over the top wonderful in this park.
Thanks for reading!

hope you're having a wonderful day!

Up next~
DHS!!!

We've never eaten a table service meal at Animal Kingdom. We usually do a dinner show after touring the park.

Let's see, Animal Kingdom counter service.....

We've eaten at Flame Tree countless times. The food has always been pretty good but it was heck trying to find a place to sit. I guess we've always hit it at peak dining times.

Pizzafari has a decent Italian stack sandwich and a good chicken caesar salad. Plus, we like looking for hidden Mickeys in the dining areas. Oh, and it's air conditioned which is always a plus.:thumbsup2

Back when our son was really little, we ate at Restaurantasarus (spelling?) just so he could get the kids' nugget meal and a toy. Call me cheap but that was a good way to get an Animal Kingdom souvenir. :rolleyes1 The rest of the food there was typical Disney burgers and chicken strips.

Our son is one of the pickiest eaters I know so we haven't given Yak & Yeti a try yet. I'm not for running here and getting something for this person and then running there to get something for another person. So, I try to find a place that has a menu that we can all order off of.

I guess we've lucked up when we've eaten at the two Disney Rainforest Cafes. The food has been good and the service decent.

AK dining. . . . we haven't done a lot of it! We don't spend too much time at this park.

We've been to:

Rainforest Cafe -- the food was just okay, the service was slow, but the atmosphere was fun. Loud, but fun.

Donald's Restaurantosauras breakfast (no longer available) -- good food and fun character interaction.

Restaurantosauras -- typical Disney fast food.

Tusker House breakfast -- okay food and fun character interaction.

Pizzafari -- okay pizza.

Overall I'm just not blown away by the food at AK. :confused3

Thanks for sharing your experience at Akershus for breakfast. I've been going back and forth on going here for our next trip. I'm thinking I'll need to find a way to fit it into our schedule.

I've not spent too much time at Epcot, but we did manage to eat at a couple of places.

Tokyo Dining - We had lunch here on our last trip. I had the chicken teriyaki with tempura and it was tasty. I don't remember what everyone else ordered, but everyone liked their food. The servers were very nice and they gave my DD a little flashing pink dolphin before we left. She still has the dolphin today!

Bakery in Norway - I ordered some sort of pastry here. I don't remember what it was, but it has fruit in it and was delicious.

We will be going to AK for the first time on our next trip, so I don't have any reviews to add, but Flame Tree BBQ is on our list of places to eat for lunch. I've heard good things about the food and it's right up DH's alley, but I'm not too crazy about fighting off ducks and birds while eating. Do they have inside seating?

Okay- shawarma-- it looks pretty good! The way things are cooked doesn't really gross me out- it's the things I've seen customers do at buffets that gross me out- like the kid that took the mashed potato spoon and stuck it in his mouth, licked it clean then put it back into the potaotes. The ones that really gross me out are the ones that lick the dressing off of their fingers then touch the serving spoon immediately. Or they sit at their table and blow their nose and go immediately and touch all of the serving utensils without washing their hands.....ewww eww. ewww. Okay I'm grossing myself out. Germaphobe- yes, yes I am.:rotfl:

Good luck and pixie dust for a FD pin code for you!!!:wizard:

Thanks for your thoughts on those two parks!

I might try Lotus Blossom if we need something quick-- I'm thinking I *might* have a spot for it to go into- but I won't go into it thinking it's gonna be great so I'll be pleasantly surprised if it's in the "Okay" department!:thumbsup2
I did hear that Tusker House was very good from a few posters- if only I would eat there.

Never tried Morocco- but heard that it is very good as well. I think the idea of this restaurant is really neat.

Thanks for your input!

Hi Sea! Both times we've eaten at RFC it's been very loud, very very busy. They are indeed a great time for the kids-- lots to keep them entertained but I definitely wouldn't go if I had a headache.:rotfl:

Thanks for your input and opinions! Hope your week is going good in Sunny Cali!

We, too like to go to a nicer TS place after touring the parks. I really like going to the room, showering and then going back after a break. I just tend to enjoy my meal a little more when I do. i just have never really felt like there is enough at AK to make me go back at night. I think they need a really superb sit down restaurant here but the park does close earlier so maybe that's the reason why they don't have one.
Thanks for your experiences!

Yep, that was the time you ditched us!

Soooooorrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyy.:flower3:

Me neither sister- not blown away at all. You are so much like me in the AK touring department!
Thanks for your opinions!

Ooh- Akershus- I would definitely recommend it. It's a fun time. I think your DD would like it.
I've never really heard much about Tokyo Dining- in fact I don't think I even know where it is? Huuuummmmm- that is a possibility as well I suppose. I need to look at the menu. Thanks for the idea!
The bakery in Norway- I might have to peruse their pastries once or twice!:)

Flame tree BBQ- nope no inside seating. Just outside- but the view is really nice.

Thanks for giving your ideas!

So here is my discalimer for DHS....

DH HATES this park. I mean, really really dislikes it. For some reason as soon as we walk into the park, his mood turns really bad. I think it has to do with me scheduling it later in our vacation week- and by the time we get to it- he's been gone away from work long enough that everything seems to be falling apart. It happens every year- I'll leave him sitting somewhere on a bench for a couple of hours while I walk around. He also doesn't care for TOT- which is my favorite ride in WDW- but he will ride it to appease me.

So-- take all of my reviews and know that I came to these conclusions under duress, and stress.:lmao:

Counter Service:

Writer's Stop - the obligatory coffee fix, lol. It has a pretty good mocha latte. It's near Sci Fi restaurant. It took us awhile to find it but it's pretty decent.

Toluca Legs Turkey Company - for the Turkey Leg lover in you. I have never eaten them, but DH has. If you feel like being King Henry VIII, this is your place.

Toy Story Pizza Planet - The usual WDW pizza. The Caprese salad is okay as well. Very kid friendly.

Studio Catering Company - We always eat lunch here b/c we know what we're getting. Pulled pork sandwich- pretty decent, and the Greek salad- okay as well. It's an easy choice.

Table Service:

Sci-Fi Dine-In - Eaten here twice- the first time was on our Honeymoon and I ordered something called the Moondoggie.:confused3:rotfl2: It was the biggest freakin hotdog I've ever seen and I hate hotdogs, so not sure what I was dreaming. DH has yet to let me live that down. The last time we ate there was during one of DH's moments of having big issues at work- (lunchtime) so he was not a happy camper and ordered chili, which was an itty bitty bowl and he finished in two bites. The kids enjoyed their meals, but I really didn't like mine- the Smoked Turkey sandwich. It was yuck. I know a lot of people love it here. The atmosphere and theming is great- I think it's one of the cutest restaurants on property and the film reel is so neat, but we are not a Sci Fi Family unfortunately.

Mama Melrose's - We ate here a long time ago- 2005 maybe (?) for dinner before Fantasmic and were not impressed at all. I had the Chicken Parm and DH ordered the Salmon that was on the menu at the time. I like Olive Garden's food better, quite honestly. The food was just not good in our opinion and the wait staff was not very timely. Have never had any desire to go back- so we never even look at the menu to consider it as an option.

Brown Derby - we had lunch here and thought the atmosphere was wonderful and the food was pretty good. I would not pay for the night prices however. For fun, DH asked the waiter what a "Haricot vert" was- pronounced exactly the way it's spelled rather than the way it's actually pronounced, and watched the waiter smirk and squirm. It was quite funny. The waiter then realized what he was doing and started laughing with us. It was fun and we ended up really liking our waiter. I'd go back but wouldn't use the DDP 2 credits for it.

And so that's our list of dining for DHS. This is another park that I feel is lacking a great amount of dining spots- both CS and TS.

Hope you will all chime in with your opinions and experiences--

Have a great day!

We only have had lunch at Sci-Fi and it was very good that day. My boys and loved the atmosphere. Looking forward to go back another time to try the other places.

I do like TOT and RnRC. Enjoyed the Lights Camera etc. My favorite was the Walt Disney Story theater.

Fantasmic! at DHS...skip it and come see the original version at Disneyland. Our dragon breathes real fire!

DHS, my favorite park! :lovestruc

But not so favorite on my dining list.

We have been to . . .

Sci-Fi Dine In -- ate here twice. First time was for lunch and we just had sandwiches. They were good. This last trip we went here for dinner and it was probably the best meal of our trip. It was a nice surprise. I had the steak salad and it was excellent. DH had the steak and it was very good as well. And those milkshakes are the best ever!!!!

Mama Melrose -- ate here twice on the fantasmic package. The food is good. Not excellent, but good. We love the atmosphere here, but the service is VERY slow.

Hollywood & Vine -- ate here once. It's an average buffet.

Toy Story Pizza Planet -- ate here a couple of times. What can I say, it's Disney pizza. It's okay. Fun and loud atmosphere.

ABC Commissary -- ate here once for lunch. It was okay. The burgers were greasy and the buns were soggy. Not great!

Min & Bill's Dockside Diner -- we have stopped here for snacks before. Everything is always very good!

There you have it. . . DHS -- I'm definitely not blown away by the CS choices there.

Oh, I can't wait to talk about DTD and BW dining! :yay:

BTW JO -- you need to clean out your PM box. . . :rolleyes1

Ewwww- ABC --- soggy buns! That's what I did not like about my Sci fi sandwich- the bread was soggy. I was sad b/c I really and truly wanted to like it- I really think it's so cute in there. Sigh, maybe I'll try again another trip. Your salad sounds really really good- and who would have thought your DH's steak would've been so good?

Min and Bills-- I don't know where that is?

Thanks for sharing---
oh yeah-- I just realized my PM's were full. Sorry.
