Busted stocking up on Alien Green Mickeys!

I totally agree, I don't think you can justify this by saying you are not stealing because they are free samples. If they are giving away food samples at the grocery store would you take enough to feed your entire family? Bragging that you are helping your kids steal is just wrong!

This reminded me of being young....we used to go to Costco and the other wholesale clubs for a free sample lunch....ah memories....

So basically people have two issues here:

1) taking paint samples at all if you are not buying paint
2) taking more than one paint sample if you are not buying paint

I think there are actually three camps -- 1) those that are not o.k. with taking any number of samples for any reason other than to decide if they want to buy the paint
2) those who are o.k. with taking a limited number of samples, even though they have no intention of buying paint, and 3) those who are o.k. with cleaning out the paint sample section, even if they have no intention of buying paint

Surely, this is an issue with room for the moderates? Isn't it possible that you could take home a few samples without any intention to use them for painting purposes, and then decide you wish to purchase the paint?

On this election day, who will win the day? The Right, determined to see no paint chip leave that store without a clear and present intent to paint? The Left, gleefully cackling as they leave the store covered from head to toe with secreted Mickey Heads, or brazenly flashing them at the camera as they leave? or the Center, just wanting a few Mickey Heads to brighten the day for themselves and others? Why can't we all just get along?!

Hi all I wanted to let you know that I was at Home Depot the other day to pick up some nails and stuff for a project. Well I ventured over to the paint section and was checking out the colors. I noticed a small camera click when I took the Alien Green Mickeys, the more I took the more it clicked, so after 5 clicks I decided to strike a pose for each click.:rotfl2:I ended up getting 10 Mickey's. So next time your at HD look for that little camera and remember to strike a pose.

Well, I don't feel bad about taking the "FREE" paint samples for whatever reason I need them. Most of the time when repainting a room or piece of furniture I always end up with at least 12 different ones to bring home and compare anyway!! Then, sometimes I find that I don't buy any of the paint from the samples I got in the first place because hey, that is why we can take them home to figure it all out in the first place!!

Just saw a craft segment on the Rachael Ray show where the project called for at least 100 "free" paint samples from your local home improvement store!!! Was the audience SHOCKED?? Of course NOT.

So, I will definitely be picking up some Alien Green Mickeys on my next trip! I'm shocked that some people have made such a HUGE deal over something so silly!!!!!! If it was really a problem, I'm sure Home Depot would post a notice in the paint sample department. :)

Great Idea!!!!!

We leave on 12/2 and I am going to make christmas garland for our window!!!!

Hello,

We at HD HQ have been monitoring these boards for some time now after a disgruntled DIS'r notified us of the unauthorized pilfering of our Disney 'paint samples', or as they are known in the industry, Chromatically Reviewable Appearance Pieces.

We have noticed a shortage of these pieces, particularly in the color 'Alien Green' without a corresponding increase in the sales of paint of this shade. As a result of this, Home Depot management has been forced to withdraw orders for Alien Green paint. An unfortunate side affect of this has been the sudden unemployment of an entire village in South America. These villagers were employed by HD for the purpose of collecting the rare Luzanoverde caterpillar; the remarkable hue of Alien Green comes from the addition of these ground up caterpillars.

Although HD is proud to supply these paint samples, it is commonly known and obvious knowledge that members of the general public are entitled to only one (1) sample per family per week. The removal of samples in excess of this amount is a violation of Federal Statute 867-53 section 09 subsection (a). Unfortunately, over the past 8 months, we have seen the removal of 26.8 million of these samples from our stores.

We have developed a database over the past few months with the user names not only of those who have admitted to absconding with our property, but those who have encouraged this behavior by posting to the threads in question. Additionally, our legal council (Legal Depot, Inc.) has subpoenaed the owner/operators of this board to provide the names and IP addresses of all those who have viewed the threads in question.

If you wish to avoid prosecution, you must do the following:
(a) Return any and all Chromatically Reviewable Appearance Pieces to the Home Depot nearest to you
(i) These should be accompanied by a notarized letter detailing the date, time, and number of pieces removed from the store for each infraction.
(ii) These and the accompanying letter should be delivered directly to the store manager.
(b) Remit a rental fee of $1 per month per piece
(c) Submit to 10 hours of Home Depot Community service for each piece.

As previously mentioned, we have been tracking you and know who you are. We shall expect to receive the missing paint samples back by the close of business Monday, November 6, 2006 AD or we will be forced to take further action.

Thank you for your attention to this matter,

The Paint Nazi

P.S. We would also ask that when you visit the drinking fountains in our stores that you limit yourself to no more than 1.5 seconds of fountain water per visit.

OOOOOO! That gave me an idea! Thank you!

I picked up some 'm sure if there was a security camera thay were wondering why I was acting so strange. ;) My 13YO thought i was a freak when I picked her up at school, since I was sitting waiting for her cutting the heads out! I used my relaxation time (all 5 minutes of it) and laminated a bunch with clear contact paper (my sister's old teachers' trick!).

It's amazing what will tickle my fancy and I find such joy in....... :cloud9:

OK I wasn't sold on the idea of procuring LGMHs until I read this.
Oddly, I now feel compelled......no....I feel it is my civic duty to be an Honorary Dis Focker or whatever you call your band of thieves.

P.S. I know I can count on you all to cover my bail should it be neccessary.

I was at my local Home Depot this afternoon, thought I would take a look at the alien green supply...there were plenty, so I had to help myself to one, while I was there grabbed a red and green one too, thinking of Christmas!! Must not be too many dis board people in my area!

The AGMHPC (AKA LGMHPC) is the official DIS MHPC. You put them on your belongings when you are at the park and those on the DIS, know you are also from the DIS. If you see someone with the LGMHPC, you have to do the FOCKER sign - the the thread "when you see other Dissers in the parks)

I was at our local Home Depot this weekend, to legitimately buy some paint and brushes etc, which was VERY expensive!! I felt totally justified in helping myself to a couple (okay, 6) paint chips! :goodvibes

I have to say that in the last 5 years of going to WDW (2 trips a year), I have NEVER seen a lime green Mickey on anyone. Yes, sadly, I've looked.

I have not read the entire 8 or 9 pages of this post but I am a teacher and I go to Home Depot every year and get paint sticks and many many paint samples(for memory games and other games) and I always ask and I have never , ever been told no. In fact usually someone is very happy to help me out and they have never even given me a limit. I don't think they can cost .50 apiece of they would not be so generous. Just my 2 cents.

I stopped in Home Depot to grab a few Alien Green Mickeys today, when the paint sample nazi asked me why I needed so many of the same samples. First of all he snuck up behind me and scared me to death.....I explained our little following here and he suggested that I suggest to you we make our own samples because Home Depot has to pay for these samples that we are taking. So in the interest of keeping Home Depot from going Bankrupt from stolen Alien Green Mickey paint chips we should make our own....ha, ha!!! Go gather them all up around the country...it will keep the paint chip stockers busy!!!!! By the way I got away with 10 of them!!!

Busted by the Paint Nazis...
