Busted stocking up on Alien Green Mickeys!

I could see if you were an independent contractor it would affect the bottom line. But this is the cost to do business. I own 2 restuarants. Do you know how many people steal our shot glasses, how many people steal our table tents (the little signs on tables that are plastic that you stick things in side of). This is part of doing business. I am sure these paint chips are not hurting anyones bottom line. I am sure the mark up in paint is tremendous just as it is in liquour. Think about it next time you order a cocktail at DW. The mark up on a drink that you order in a bar where you live is normally 100 to 150%. At DW it is all profit. Businesses do not sell product they lose on. They clear it out and bring in new product. Behr paints is a top seller. Right up there with Benj. Moore. In fact because of Home Depot I am sure they have a wider audience. I am not going to continue to debate a silly paint chip with you as you seem to have the need to be right. In the mean time I am going to continue to take them. In fact now I will take more alien green ones for my trip.

... my DH said that those regular paint strips that show a family of colors come in a package of 25 and generally cost about $12.50 per package...

While I have no clue how expensive these paint samples might be, I could easily see them being more expensive that most people would think. They do have to carefully get the color of these just right time and time again. So I could seen the need for tight quality control that would drive up cost.

Are you kidding? I've got 50 of them sitting here, and the hue varies from one to the next! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

That is sooooooooo funny. Now that will just make everyone go get more. Now it is a game to see who can get the most without getting caught. Thanks for making my day!!!!1

I'm just so incredibly sick of reading this sort of riduculous, self-important crap on the DIS. Please. Get a grip. Nobody's kid is going to be negatively impacted by seeing their mother carry off a few extra paint samples from Home Depot. You all need to quit spending so much time worrying about who takes extra paint samples, who took their towel animal home, and who used a cup from All Star Movies to fill up at Pop. I just makes you all seem incredibly petty. And, it's driving me (for one) nuts! THESE ARE TINY THINGS!!!! And, if you can't see that, well, I feel sorry for you.

Taking a can of paint is stealing. To describe taking a handful of free paint samples as stealing is stretching it pretty far. I hope none of you champions of honesty have ever taken an extra Magic Kingdom park map for your scrapbook or grabbed more napkins than you really needed at Pecos Bills. Or, horror of horrors, I hope you haven't taken home any of the leftover resort Mickey soaps. After all, those are meant to be used WHILE you are at the resort. If you don't actualy use them during your vacation, you should leave them there so that Disney can use them for the next person.

If you have engaged in any of the above mentioned heinous acts, then I guess you're embarked on a life of crime that rivals that of the oringinal poster. You better get to confession and put your kids in therapy immediately. Or, better yet, just give them to some other self-righteous DIS poster who could, no doubt, raise them better than you are (or at least, they think). There are always plenty of perfect people here ready to volunteer their expertise.

I'd really, really love to reply to this post with what's in my head, but I know full well it would probably get me banned.

So . . . :rolleyes1

:woohoo: :woohoo:
Breath of fresh air reading this post. This is exactly what I, and I am sure plenty other Diser's, have been feeling more and more from reading some of the threads. Disney police are beginning to remind me of political correctness which is getting crazy in the UK.

Hi, All I just got back from a trip to Home Depot (Place Of The Mickey Paint Swatches). I went over and looked at them, all the pretty colors were just jumping out at me and saying (take me, take me). So I took some home (yes I took the Alien Green too). I then proceeded to the check out and ran into a friend who works there, I told her all about the Mickey's and she laughed and said she had never heard about it in that store. All of a sudden lights and sirens went off and I was surrounded by store security. They took me into an office and searched me, (how embarrassed I was), after a 5 hour grilling as to what my interest in the Mickey's were ( they thought I might have some evil plot in my mind to use the Mickey's). I was really sweating thinking oh no, then they took my picture. Then I was released into the custody of Goofy and Pluto. Was told to have a Magical Day!!!!! LOL...........

Since I've seen my post quoted several times I thought I might better chime in and clarify something. My only intent was to point out to folks that taking excessive numbers of paint chips may be costing the company more than you would think. Since this has generated such a debate, I asked my DH for more info on exactly who provides those samples. Turns out that what he meant was not that the retail store has to buy replacements but that the paint company's territory sales rep probably has to pay for those out of his budget so it is most likely individual sales reps who are having to foot the bill for all of your LGMH addictions. ;) Unfortunately, this may actually cut into their take-home pay because a certain amount of what they make is probably based on how low they keep their costs. This may not be the deal with the paint reps for HD but it is a typical arrangement in that industry. Someone (sorry, I'm having to read through too quickly to catch names) disagreed with my estimate of 50 cents each but my DH said that those regular paint strips that show a family of colors come in a package of 25 and generally cost about $12.50 per package. Can't say for sure, of course, but it stands to reason that the Mickey paint chips are going to be at least that since they are unusual and anything Disney is usually a little more expensive. Anyway, didn't mean to get so long-winded. Just wanted to let people know that if you weren't sure or genuinely didn't think you were doing any harm by making repeat trips and, eventually, taking dozens of these that you might want to reconsider or try to find out for sure what the deal is on who pays for these things.

Not to be rude ...but this made me laugh so hard....
this is HD...one of the largest home improvement chains in the country (key word is chain)....they don’t deal with sales reps on individual basis by store, corporate handles contracts in ATL ….this isn’t mom and pop hardware ….they don’t have reps trying to selling stores items….So in no way does this come out of anyone’s salary….its part of a contract deal

And seriously the color samples that cost that much are actual paint…not colored cardboard….

When you really think about it (its great advertising for Disney), and I honestly believe if the missing mickey's were a major concern, then Home Depot would just either 1. have flat cards of the sample (which I did notice they had there as well as the ear shape). or 2. Don't have individual sample color, I notice most samples have more then just one shade on a card. In any event I don't think I will pass up a chance when I am there to look at all those beautiful Mickey's.

I also got the Christmas Green and Christmas Red ones. I put the leters on them to spell Merry Christmas and threaded them thru silver string. I am going to hang them in our hotel window.

They have ones that say Christmas Green and Christmas Red (I didn't see those), guess I will have to make another trip back to the Depot.

Wow, I did not know I could be yelled at when I go get paint samples. Yes, indeed, I have been known to take one of every color and shade so that I can go home and view them in the light of my house, with the wood and other objects in my house. Do I only take the ones I am certain I will use? Nope! I take every last color and shade so I can see if a color I hate in the store will leap out at me. I have also given these samples to my kids to cut up and do art projects with.

The store does not seem to care that I stood there for 20 minutes and took every sample, so why would they care of I took 10 of one color?

BTW, I have also been known to then go to a DIFFERENT store with the swatch I liked and get them to mix up that color for me...

Just wanted to let you guys know I was only kidding in my post about the (Mickey Paint Swatch Home Depot Security), this has just become a fun topic and I thought I would use my imagination. So if I confused anyone please accept my apologies and if you want the next time I am there will grab you a Alien Mickey. lol.......

Well, I went to HD last weekend to buy paint for my living room (very expensive paint too!), I thought I was entitled to a couple mickey heads. WELL!! When I went to snitch some (hmmm, snitch sounds so naughty! :teeth: ) they were ALL GONE! Soo, maybe I'll have to go back "for more dropcloths", or something, and will have to check again ;)

I work for The Home Depot, and I can't imagine one of our associates confronting a customer over something so silly. Actually, the paint stirring sticks are free too. Feel free to take a few of those every time you come in. If anyone asks tell them you bought paint yesterday and forgot to grab them. Yes it cost us something (a few cents each), but like someone else posted it's part of the costs of doing business. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the info. I have never had a problem at Home Depot, I actually like going there to see what I can do to improve my house.

I just read thru this entire thread and found myself laughing my head off at most posts then scratching my head in disbelief at some of the comments. :confused3

The whole thread has made me want to dash right out to my nearest (3) Home Depots and "take" more of those darling little MHPC's even though I have a stack here I haven't peeled yet!! :rotfl:

My name is pbnjrockette and I am a HDLGMHPC thief!!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
