GEM, I'll assume you're talking about the unopenned bars of soap. I'd hate to think that Disney is trying to collect everyone's used soap and trying to recycle it. :scared1:

Nope. If you're REALLY an HONEST person, you'll leave it all there - just in case! The next person can just pick the hairs out and lather up. :rotfl:.

After all, the soap technically belongs to Disney. We shouldn't be taking it - opened or unopened. Just think of your sweet children. How could you do that to them? I just hate to think of them growing up without a good role model. They'll probably end up in prison. Or, worse, they might end up being one of those people who takes extra condiment packets at fast food establishments. Could you really live with that on your conscience? I think not.

WAIT JUST A MINUTE!! Your Kohl's has a CANDY COUNTER????? Not only that, it has fudge samples you can steal? My Kohl's has neither.

Thats what *I* said.

You could be darn sure if my Kohl's had a candy counter, I'd take more than once piece of fudge, too! :bitelip:

Geepers.....it was just a funny story that I wanted to share.....calm down!!! They are paint chips for goodness sakes!!!!

Here come the paint Nazi's !!!! Are paint chips supposed to be taken home.....of course they are. I am sure that for the amount of green Mickey's that disappear it is not even a blip on their radar. As for teaching our children anything, come on...........yes, I will teach them to be holier than though.... :rotfl: Stealing is when you actually aren't supposed to take something because it belongs to someone else, has to be paid for etc.

Paints chips.......... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

It doesn't matter if Home Depot is or is not paying for these samples. The bottom line is SOME BODY DOES and it's NOT the people grabing hand fulls of them to decorate thier Disney Resort Windows.
Ok Ok Ok that is very true...SOMEBODY does have to pay for them but how many people take these samples and then toss them away? I know lots of people who have been taking all different colors of the Mickey heads for crafty ideas. Either way, I took about 4 and made color copies with my printer using a sheet of 8x10 kodak picture paper I was able to make lots of my own "free" mickey heads which I liked much better anyways since they seemed a bit sturdier. I used the Disney font and put our names and info on some before printing and after I cut em out and laminated them for out luggage tags.

I also though of something else to DETUR the swiping of the LGMHPC from HD I was at a scrapbook store a while ago and saw a mickey Head punch the same size as those MHPC on the cards at the depot. You could get one of those for $10 and then punch out as many as you want using the lime green card stock or poster board or what ever! Good I dea Jessica! :rotfl: I will be doing that too this weekend! I see a trip to the scrapbook store on my future! :rotfl:

Anyqway just a few ideas to help HD "save" money or to help ease the conscience of other Disers! :thumbsup2

Of course technically, that's steeling too (see copyright infringment).

Just a thought, was thinking maybe the paint sample cards are figured into the cost of the paint. (Just got done getting paint a month ago, paid 22.00 a gallon), and no I didn't take any Mickey's. I may get one next time though. I am also sad that my khols (2 within my house) neither had fudge.

I'm just so incredibly sick of reading this sort of riduculous, self-important crap on the DIS. Please. Get a grip. Nobody's kid is going to be negatively impacted by seeing their mother carry off a few extra paint samples from Home Depot. You all need to quit spending so much time worrying about who takes extra paint samples, who took their towel animal home, and who used a cup from All Star Movies to fill up at Pop. I just makes you all seem incredibly petty. And, it's driving me (for one) nuts! THESE ARE TINY THINGS!!!! And, if you can't see that, well, I feel sorry for you.

Taking a can of paint is stealing. To describe taking a handful of free paint samples as stealing is stretching it pretty far. I hope none of you champions of honesty have ever taken an extra Magic Kingdom park map for your scrapbook or grabbed more napkins than you really needed at Pecos Bills. Or, horror of horrors, I hope you haven't taken home any of the leftover resort Mickey soaps. After all, those are meant to be used WHILE you are at the resort. If you don't actualy use them during your vacation, you should leave them there so that Disney can use them for the next person.

If you have engaged in any of the above mentioned heinous acts, then I guess you're embarked on a life of crime that rivals that of the oringinal poster. You better get to confession and put your kids in therapy immediately. Or, better yet, just give them to some other self-righteous DIS poster who could, no doubt, raise them better than you are (or at least, they think). There are always plenty of perfect people here ready to volunteer their expertise.

I'd really, really love to reply to this post with what's in my head, but I know full well it would probably get me banned.

So . . . :rolleyes1

:worship: :worship: :worship: Thank you, thank you, thank you...I could not have said it better myself! I have had to watch this drama unfold all day and I myself am sick of the paint samples/towel animal/refillable mug dramas :happytv: I too have taken the paint chips and like another poster mentioned, I also offered money to HD so I could buy 10 and then gave them to me and said they were free...

I'll be glad when this nonsense comes to a stop...

The way I see this, if everyone keeps taking tons of the LGMH's home and nobody ever buys the paint, the manufacturers are gonna think the color isn't liked. I can hear the manufactuer going, 'hmm.... everyone takes these samples home and must not like the color when they match it on their walls'. So, for the sake of the free LGMH's somebody needs to paint a room Alien Green. :thumbsup2

I took two samples of cheese at the A&P, should I feel guilty now? Is there a place on the forum I can turn myself in?

But I never got any LGMH's for my trip. I was too lazy to get my butt over to Home Depo and I can't send my husband there. He might never return.

Someone has to pay for those - what you did was steal! You did not take the samples home with the intention of seeing if you liked the color. You never intended to use them for their purpose.

I really hope you do not have kids - what an inspiration. See mommy steal things - even though you are only supposed to take one or two.

Seriously - if you needed 10, you could've taken one and made color copies and laminated them.

Sorry - but this typifies what I think is wrong with the world today - if I see something I want, I will take it.

Put the shoe on the other foot - you want to paint your bedroom blue, but you go to the paint store to get a sample of the color so you can test it out in your house. When you get to the paint section, some rude lady takes all the samples of the shade of blue you wanted. You would be on this board so fast complaining of how rude and ignorant she was.

WOW! People sure are mean on this message board today. I have read more testy comments today from people. Full moon or something?

My son who is 4 whenever we go to home depot has to have one of each color and the guy in the paint department at the North Ave Home depot in Chicago thinks it is sooooo cute and lets him ...... no helps him take them. One of each. and Yes we take them home every time we go there. Hey fellow Disers not everyone is Chicago is edgey like this. Most people who say they live in Chicago really do not live in Chicago anyways they live in the suburbs.

I will be grabbing some Alien green ones the next time I go btw! and I really live in downtown Chicago.

Oooooo!!!

Guess what *I* did - My son HELPED in the stealing of them!! <<<evil laugh>>> :bitelip:

He has used them to decorate the walls in his room!! HA! :stir: And not just green! LOTS OF COLORS!!! :stir:

We're a mother and son theft duo! :lmao:

Guess I am guilty as well. I help my son steal them everytime we go there. Though I would not exactly call it stealing my son proudly holds them in his had and we walk out the door and nobody has ever questioned it. I live in Chicago where a security guard stops you at the door of home depot as you leave and looks in your bags and matches it to your receipt. So I guess this means the security guard is help us steal too.

Well, now, my husband knows a person who works for a hotel, and he told my husband that the hotels are well aware that people take the little bars of soap and bottles of lotion and shampoo home with them, and budget it into the cost for the room. So, help yourself. You're paying for it.

Actually, I would think that most Home Depots would be thrilled for our interest in the LGMH's. I drove all the way to Canton to go to Home Depot. I picked up some packing tape and batteries (and by "pick up" I mean purchased) while I was there. Both of these things could have just as easily been purchased at Wal-Mart or (don't say it) LOWES! It was the LGMH's that made me come in.....now that's good for business!

Since I've seen my post quoted several times I thought I might better chime in and clarify something. My only intent was to point out to folks that taking excessive numbers of paint chips may be costing the company more than you would think. Since this has generated such a debate, I asked my DH for more info on exactly who provides those samples. Turns out that what he meant was not that the retail store has to buy replacements but that the paint company's territory sales rep probably has to pay for those out of his budget so it is most likely individual sales reps who are having to foot the bill for all of your LGMH addictions. ;) Unfortunately, this may actually cut into their take-home pay because a certain amount of what they make is probably based on how low they keep their costs. This may not be the deal with the paint reps for HD but it is a typical arrangement in that industry. Someone (sorry, I'm having to read through too quickly to catch names) disagreed with my estimate of 50 cents each but my DH said that those regular paint strips that show a family of colors come in a package of 25 and generally cost about $12.50 per package. Can't say for sure, of course, but it stands to reason that the Mickey paint chips are going to be at least that since they are unusual and anything Disney is usually a little more expensive. Anyway, didn't mean to get so long-winded. Just wanted to let people know that if you weren't sure or genuinely didn't think you were doing any harm by making repeat trips and, eventually, taking dozens of these that you might want to reconsider or try to find out for sure what the deal is on who pays for these things.

That may be true, but, even if every single DISer went to their Home Depot this very night and took a handful of samples, I very seriously doubt it would be enough to make any difference at all financially. Maybe if all of us were hitting the same Home Depot store, what you say would make sense. As it is, I hardly think that a few thousand people taking a handful or two of paint samples from stores spread all over the country is even going to make anywhere near a blip on the radar of any sales rep. If it were an issue, I imagine they would stop making them in those cute Mickey shapes, since people would be less likely to carry off plain square shaped samples.

I'm afraid that I'm a thief as well :smooth: and was before I knew about the Dis obsession with the mickey chips. A mickey chip buys me an additional 10-15 minutes at the Home Depot....I figure I've spent thousands and thousands there, so a paint chip can come out of the profits I've given them (plus, if the kids are content, I spend more money....sort of like the ball room at IKE)

now this I seriously doubt. The sales rep has no control over this type of cost that is based upon the general public taking a paper paint chip. This is the cost of sales. Paint chips are built into the cost of sales. Now if the cost of this line of paint goes up you can blame the DIS as it is more likely they would raise their profit margin this way than by penailizing the sales rep. If the cost of alien green paint goes up you DISERs are to blame! :rotfl2:

EXACTLY they make them in that shape for a reason. They command attention. Think about how many kids make a bee line right for those chips with their parents right behind them. Marketing at its best. Gee when it comes to painting our kids room what paint comes to mind hmmmmm...... :teacher:

Neverbeen2DW, you are right -- the cost of the paint samples are built into the cost of sales. But those costs may very well come out of the sales reps profit margin and cut into how much he makes. I agree, it doesn't seem fair since the sales rep can't do much about how many samples people take. But my DH has worked in one area or another of the building supply industry for over 15 years and some of the job "opportunities" he has checked into over the years have turned out to be some pretty lousy deals once you cut through all the fancy language explaining compensation. (And some of them were with large, well-known companies.) You would think no one would take those jobs but some people don't know what they are getting into until payday rolls around and then they start to find out how it all works. Anyway, there I go hijacking the thread again. Sorry!
