I thought this topic deserved its own thread. On the Today Show, they talked to a bus driver who said the busses had been waiting for days outside the city and were not allowed to enter. They were told that there was no one waiting in New Orleans for a bus to rescue them. The bus pulled up a few blocks from the Convention Center this morning and kids and people in wheel chairs were being loaded, while the driver was in tears.

Not sure how many bus drivers were really willing to go in. School bus drivers in Baton Rouge refused to go in. Not sure I can blame them. A little matter called security.

This sounds like someone who was willing to go in.

I will copy my post from another thread:

Who knows? I'm sure people will say violence, but it cleary escalated over the week! Maybe if these people had some relief early on, it wouldn't have gotten that way.

And like Sue said, this sounded like someone willing to go in.

Why would they have been forced to wait outside the city to go in to start rescuing people?

Umm... like getting shot at??

My husband's god daughter is married to a N.O. cop, he has told us that if one of the thugs spots the tell tale blue shirt they shoot. This is not rumor, not exageration, it is happening. If law enforcement is not safe, how can the bus drivers be so?

Normal rules are not applying here. It did not start just yesterday, it has been happening since the storm passed. Sorry if you don't get it.

I believe it. One of the reporters said that a policeman had given him his flashing blue light to put on his boat, as they left downtown, and they were threated. New Orleans is a dangerous town in the best of times.

When was this on the Today Show? I had it on this morning and I didn't see it, although I was in and out of the room.

Yes, but the bus drivers were told that there was no one waiting to be rescued, not that they might get shot at!

Americans enter into a country where they KNOW they are going to get shot at fighting a war based on lies. Entering one of their own cities to save the lives of their own citizens at the risk of being shot at isn't something that should freak them out.

On the one hand... risk your life to force your own way of life on another people that doesn't want it.

On the other hand... risk your life to save the life of your own fellow citizens.

Which one do you think is right?

The bus drivers were FORCED to wait. That means, they didn't have a choice in the matter. They were willing to enter. They weren't running the other direction. They were forced to wait.

My question is why they were forced to wait. There is no excuse. They were willing to risk their lives to save their fellow citizens. Someone made them wait while people died according to the original post.

There is no legitimate reason when they were willing to risk the chance of death.

Now saying no one was left is unexcusable. Holding them back may have been. I can almost bet that many here who harp about them being held back would be crying bloody murder about the inept military if defenseless bus drivers had been ambused and shot and killed. I am not saying security is the reason they were held back but if it was I can defiantely see why. A dead bus driver can't drive anyone anywhere especially if their bus is taken or destroyed. These drivers are civilians for the most part.
