Hi,
I have a business trip next week to the US and I am hoping to be able to get a little free time for some photography.
I am flying into Boston this Sunday and driving to Providence for 2 x days work - then on to somewhere in Connecticut (not 100% sure where yet) for another 2 x days before finally ending up in Milford Ct for the final day (Friday).
Its a pretty hectic and full on schedule so I dont know if I will get much time to spend out and about on my own during the working week - but I may be able to 'sneak out' from the hotels either late night or early morning for a short while.
I will have the Saturday free and fly back home to the UK from JFK on Sunday evening.
Can anyone give me some recommendations of places that would be good to visit and photograph? I know Milford quite well as I have been here a couple of times before and the town is quite picturesque in places.
I have also been to Old Saybrook, Essex and Mystic for flying visits (but had no camera on these occasions!).
I was thinking of perhaps taking the train into NYC on the Saturday but I dont really want to do the usual tourist things - I will be with a collegue who has suggested driving up to Rhode Island on the Saturday instead of NYC as he was brought up there as a child and would like to pay a visit. I believe that the coast road (the Boston Post Road) has some great places along the way.
Any suggestions would be most welcome?

This time of the year is very bla. Empty trees and a little bit of snow on the ground that has been all trampled on and full of dirt.

If you head back up to Rhode Island I would go to Newport. Very nice seaport. Check out this site http://lighthouse.cc/ri.html for Lighthouses in Rhode Island if that interests you or the same for Connecticut: http://www.lighthouse.cc/ct.html I haven't gotten down to that part of New England for lighthouse photography yet, but will eventually. I've only done Massachusetts and Maine.

The Roger Williams Park Zoo is nice and its one of the oldest city zoo's in the States.

The weather should be fairly nice on Saturday. Low 40's (or around 5 Celsius) and mostly sunny.

Its been a while since I've been around Rhode Island. So I can't really think of much else, especially for this time of year.

I grew up in RI and there isn't a whole lot your going to find. Downtown Providence has some nice old buildings that can make for some nice photos if the weather is nice. Some of Providence is pretty bad in terms of crime and violence, make sure to pay attention to your surroundings. There is some photo ops in Warwick, down at the Rocky Point beach. When the tide is out you can walk out on the jette pretty far and there was an old run-down old stone building ( I thought it was a castle when I was a kid) on the beach there. There also used to be an amusment park there but it was sold off, you might be able to get some run down pics of it from the beach. OH! and Iggy's at Connimicut (sp?) Beach has awesome "beach food" if they are open this time of year! Also in Warwick, the Islander has the best chinese food in the area.
Now I'm just reminising.....

Thanks for your comments Handicap18 and NH2Disney.
I was a little startled by the comment about 'crime and violence' - but I guess there are a few 'no-go' areas in every city?
I was wandering through the streets of Central London today and if I was a visitor rather than a local I guess I may have felt a little uncomfortable at walking through parts of Soho.

I will be careful and probably won't venture too far from the hotels at night!

I will be a passenger in the car rather than the driver (an unusual experience for me as I am usually the designated driver everywhere I go!) so pehaps I can just shoot from the hip in the back of the car:rotfl:

I will try to post some of my adventure when I return.

Thanks again

Milly

Enjoy your time here!
