Looks like DH is leaving on Sunday on a business trip. :( Being in the Navy I am used to DH leaving on deployments when he is stationed on ship (which he hasn't been for almost four years), so now that he tells me he is going (only for a week), I am really bummed. It happens the week he is going DS is off from school too, and I was hoping we could meet dad for lunch a couple of days, but it looks like that plan is out now.

Sorry, I am just having a little pity party here.

I feel your pain. I have a really hard time with my husband leaving. For years he travelled overseas, then it was especially hard for me. I don't know how you coped with his deployment! You must be very independent. Maybe you could focus on the day he returns every time his leaving enters your mind. I've done that and every time my mind would say he's leaving, I would counter with "he's coming back on ...." Focus on how well you did when he was away before. And, still take your son out for lunch by yourself.:Pinkbounc

I'm the one who travels. Luckily not just 2x a year...but DH really feels kind of "lost"...I try to keep busy wherever I am.

My Dh is ex navy also, and Im used to deployments(3-4 months at a time).
I thought being a civilan would put as end to those trips! WRONG!!!!
He's gone quit a bit.
I can handle it a lot better now, because at least he can call me at night and I know its only for a few days.
When he was in the Navy, he had submarine duty and we hardly ever got to hear from him

I feel your pain...My DH moved us all the way to Fl. so he wouldn't travel as much! Ha...right now he is in Hawaii while I'm stuck here!

Try and have a good time anyway...I know it must be tough to be in the Military with all of the traveling!

Why is that the best laid plans always go astray??

I hear what you're saying Debbi & it is such a shame that it has to happen now when as you say DS will be off school & it would have been an ideal opportunity to go meet up with Dad for lunch a couple of times.:(

That would have been fun too & something different;)

I'm sorry he won't be there.

Plan some special activities with your son to keep you both occupied. I hope the time goes by quickly for you.

Thank you all. I was just feeling sorry for myself when I posted this yesterday. I know it is only a week, and after all we have done the 6 month deployment thing, it's just that I got used to having him around! We will be fine, DS and I have some things planned so time will fly.
