Bush Will Win...

Funny how for at least the 2 weeks before, all you heard was non-stop coverage on the DNC, but here we are 2 weeks before the RNC and nothing on the TV or here. Hummm, I wonder why?

MSNBC is my news station of choice and they're advertising the upcoming convention quite frequently.

I didn't notice a non-stop advertising campaign for the DNC. Seems to me, the coverage has been just about the same for both.

Bloodthirsty? WTH are you talking about??

Do I care that the insurgents die? Well I don't want to see anyone die but that's the choice they make by fighting. And I am saddened by the deaths of our soldiers just as I am over the deaths of innocent Iraqis. But my heart does not weep for those that choose death when all they want to do is kill others (both sides) and a chance for real freedom is right in front of them through peaceful actions.

WTH?
I'm talking about your path to peace statement.

I'm also way over your hangup with the word "insurgent."
That's just about me, I know but you use it like you think
it adds power to your statements. It doesn't.
I know it's not your word but it rings like "axis of evil." A
little over the top when used to such an extreme.
Do you even know who these people are and why they
might be fighting? Do you think they are crazy or could it be
that someone like you might fight just as hard if our country
and core beliefs were being controlled by another regime you saw as evil as the first? I hate that our military people are still
in the line of fire but as I said, if we were not still occupying
Iraq after our "handover of power", OR if we had a plan
prior to entering into this "war"....it would be over.
Think you that we have pursued this action as it should have
been?

It would be interesting if Colin Powell showed up at the convention.:)

I think that the Clintons honestly didn't think that someone would be able to BEAT Bush this election--at first. I think that Kerry (unfortunately) does have a chance, but when Hillary opted to stay out of the race, I don't think she believed Kerry had a chance. Had she believed Bush could lose, I think she would have run.

Although they seemed to embrace Wesley Clark for a while, they noticably stayed silent until it was obvious Kerry would be the Democratic candidate. I think if they really thought one of the other candidates had a chance, they would have really gotten behind him much earlier. Instead, they chose to wait until there was a clear forerunner before endorsing.

What do you think of this? From what I read, the Clintons were angry at Gore for endorsing Howard Dean. I read that they believed that to be a slap in the face. I'm not sure I see why, to be honest, but maybe if some of you do, you could give me your thoughts?

I think that the people (Iraqis or non-Iraqis (happy I didn't say insurgents?)) who are trying to disrupt the process of them establishing their own form of democratic self-rule are doing so because they want control and power over the people. They don't want any form of self-rule. I'd also be surprised if a lot of them are just because they hate the US. And there are Al Queda terrorists there too. There may be some that believe they are fighting an invading force. That's only natural. Would I fight an invading force that I felt was going take over and control my life? You bet I would. Maybe that's how they see it. Do you see it that way? But if I were living under the conditions (SH's rule) they were prior to us going in, I would hope I'd feel different. I'd also be afraid of taking that huge step out from under such oppression. It would be something that many younger Iraqis never felt.

I'm a little perplexed at the apparent sympathy toward the Iraqis (and non Iraqis) that are still fighting (and killing their own people) when there seems to be little for them now that we know how bad they had it under SH.

And you ask if I felt if we pursued this as it should have been. My answer is probably not. There are a lot of unanswered questions but I still feel that we had the authority to go in under the guidelines of the ceasefire from the 1st Gulf war. To get those people out from under SH's rule was right too. But given the current situation, we must stay and finish what we started. To leave now would be disastrous. The place would otherwise implode.

I agree with this so much it isn't funny. My main objection to going to war in Iraq wasn't that I didn't think it was right (I relunctantly thought it WAS justified), but that I KNEW BUSH HAD NO PLAN TO WIN THE PEACE AFTER THE WAR. I'm so very sad to say that I saw all of this comming before the first troop was shiped overseas. I knew we'd win the war in short order with few casualties, but knew that the "peace" and rebuilding afterwards was what was going to get us into trouble. I really hate to be right, sometimes... :(

Wow! This is quite a thread. I volunteer for my political party and I feel this election is very important. Bottom line for me is this:

If you vote for the candidate of your choice on election day - you have my respect!

Whoever is fairly elected, I will consider the President of the United States and give him the respect he & his office deserves. Even if I disagree with his policies or we have to spend days with counts and re-counts.

I served in the military as well as most of my family. No matter who the President is, the military service men & woman serve their country and the Commander in Chief.

We may not agree with the elected President, but too many people have fought, died and defended our right to vote.

Get to the polls and make YOUR voice count!

Hi there Jimiej
My real point was that this is the FIRST time your 18 year old has voted. I guess I phrased it wrong.

I am sure you have had a big influence in her vote. I think most parents have that kind of influence. At least until the kids move out on their own.
