Busdriver Attacked By Guest

Unbelievable... Talk about a feeling of entitlement because he has a baby?

Solution: Take away the baby!

Wow. Not only am I disgusted by this man's actions but also by the woman/crew that were filming it. What a sick world we live in. They seemed to think the whole thing was funny. Whether he threw the baby or not, they were amused by the incident. The flippant attitude and desensitization of this you tube society really sickens me

Everything you've said I agree with, except for the pepper spray thing. Only reason I bring it up is that people read about pepper spray on an internet forum, run out and buy one, and then have no idea how to use them.

Pepper spray in an enclosed crowded space with children would have to be a last ditch effort when there is no other choice. Even then it can make a situation worse, so it's likely to remain in the pocket. Consider them "area weapons" as you'll potentially affect anyone in the sprayed area. If the bus' ventilation system is active...

As SSR said, I'm sure that the UC was vigilant and ready to react, but it would have been to get the guy off the bus, or put him on the floor if necessary. Imagine how difficult that is in an already narrow and cramped space like a bus stairwell / aisle. If there were more people in there being "the man", it would complicate things. Usually when "the men" and "the women" are not jumping into a situation, they are actually evaluating many different factors in their head, like protecting "their family" from the situation unraveling in front of them.

The only "failure", if you can call it that, is the lack of security responders in the immediate area of that loading zone, as the "bus operations" person said. If there is a crowd, there should be a couple of uniforms in the immediate area. Maybe they were busy on other calls, but there should be a surplus of uniforms to respond to multiple incidents, and cover the unmanned posts. Uniforms go a long way toward diffusing situations, and unless WDW relies on UC's breaking cover during a shortage, this was a potentially bad situation. The UC's don't seem to like breaking cover.

IMO, the UC should have ID'd himself and diffused this right away. There is no sensitive nature about "their cover"; this is an amusement park not a narcotics squad infiltrating underworld gangs. Most of the people who saw this online and in the park will forget the UC's face right away. Anyone who has a worse motive for remembering the UC's face, well WDW has worse things to worry about at that point as they're planning something that no amount of cover will help.

I'm also not crazy about the supervisor taking the driver off the bus without instructing the passenger off the bus as well. I hope the driver secured the bus and removed the key by this point. Stressful situations always change the ways that things are handled, and not everyone responds perfectly.

I have family driving buses and this reminds me of statements they have made about the risks involved, the risks that the management puts them in, and the lack of procedure and preparation that they are given for these situations. Frankly, if I were the driver, and I was choked, I would have immobilized the guy and worried about it later, because I'm not getting choked a second time. I think this driver did that because the idiot calmed down a bit when he realized he almost got his trachea crushed for trying to choke the driver.

As for the "buses being bad" my experience is that the passengers are usually the problem, and this is why I avoid them. After commuting for many years, I have had to resist the urge to drop many a fellow commuter for being a wise-guy, etc... because between the driver's frustrations and my blood pressure going up, it's just not a good situation. Most of the time it's fine to let the moron fizz out and act like a putz for a few minutes... it's like feeding trolls, you tell them to shut up and it fires them up some more. The other 47 people on the bus know he's a moron, you don't need to tell him to shut up.

In some states it against the law to carry pepper spray so please check with your local gov before carrying it around with so you dont risk getting arrested. I think he did get the keys because if you watch the video you see the driver go towards the wheel i thought he was getting his radio to call for help but you dont see a radio so mybe he put the key in his pocket to keep it safe. Yes the uc should of helped out he proberly will be investigated for not helping out and face some real trouble. If the driver got hurt the uc would proberly been fired and face some action from ocso if he was an off duty officer. He just lucky the driver was able to some what calm him down untill help arrived. I am sure disney and osco looking into everything from response times to how many securty was in the area and going to make some changes.

I can see why no one stepped in. The choking part only lasted a few seconds and then the guy stopped.

I don't have a problem with those people filming this. They chatted about it in a light hearted way but people often do joke around when they're nervous so who knows what they might have been feeling. They also did so when it was over so they might have felt relief.

I don't know. I do know that the guy that started this mess is a real wacko. I hope that he gets his.

I just do not understand onething and maybe it was already explained but I just joined thread, why those people charger for a terrorist attack?

Disney buses are public transportation regulated by the federal DOT. Someone said earlier, it would be like threatening a flight crew.

This was crazy, nuts, indefensible. I'm pretty much speechless. No reason ever to act that way.

I'm also surprised that so many people just stood around. Someone was yelling for "security" a lot.

I'm surprised some people didn't try to get in there and separate the guy.

I also do not believe there was an "under cover" security officer on the bus. That line comes from something a person who *might* be a bus driver put on an internet message board. Sorry I'm not buying that.

the man and the driver both appear to me to be equally in control/out of control, hence we would need to know what happened before the video starts.

I disagree. I do agree with you that the baby throwing is hearsay, but at the beginning of the tape the passenger is "in the driver's face" and the driver is literally leaning back to give him space. There are people in the way of the camera, but you can see that the passenger does something close to the beginning of the video that looks to me to be a physical move in the driver's direction. It's at that point that the driver moves forward in an attempt to physically control the passenger. The driver is clearly responding to, not just aggression (the passenger is aggressive from the git go), but some escalation of that aggression.

From the body language, and also from the fact that the driver does not pursue his advantage, I expect he's acting in self-defense. The driver looks to me to be capable of overpowering the passenger, but he instead chooses to use the minimum amount of force necessary. I see no reason to assume the driver was the initial aggressor.

But the video might come in handy as evidence particularly if the miscreant's family decides to sue Disney.

Provided Disney wants to press charges, the regulation by the federal Department of Transportation would be superfluous.

After reading some of the discussions on this forum, do this really surprise anyone that this idiot thought because he had a baby he was entitled to special treatment. :sad2:

Tragically Disney World is no longer the happiest place on earth, in fact it has gotten down right scarey.

Idiots are everywhere. Has nothing to do with Disney.

You'd be surprised how much paper work is put into to get a charge on someone. They can't just point at someone, say HEY YOU! I'M CHARGING YOU WITH ___ then go on with their day. There's a lot to it if someone is charged, solid proof.

Uh, not where I practice law at all. In fact, in Maryland anyone can walk into a court commissioner, sign some papers alleging a crime and walk out with a warrant being issued. No need for an investigation at all. I am not saying that this happened here, because that video looks pretty bad, but we shouldn't assume that because someone is charged, that there is "solid proof"

Maybe it's just me, but I would not have wanted to be on that bus when this altercation was going on. You don't know what that guy could have been hiding (gun, knife, taser) - it he's that brazen to attack the driver in front of all those people! I can see a few things happening as a result of this - a 'clear box' a la greyhound that the bus driver hides behind while he is driving (for his protection) and/or the possiblity that they will no longer let us stand on the bus (to prevent something like this happening again).

OMG seriously crazy!! So what everyone has kids and stuff going to Disney you dont take priority just cause you were waiting for a bus like everyone else. This is why it pays to drive

You know what is strange, OK, I know everything, this man said they were letting people behind them on a bus and this is how they were last ones. I donot understand, it does take time to fold stroller but if you see a bus, aren't you start folding. Just strange.

I worked at Disney World for a summer in 1987.....even way back then Disney was considered the 2nd biggest target for terrorists in the world! Fact is...it's an amazing-ly (is that a word?) popular place with an amazing-ly huge amount of people present at any given time. That makes it a "down right scary" place to be. This idiot should be charged to the full extent period.

I'm still really excited to go in 9 days!!! Woohooo!!

sick..sad...but unfortunately..not shocking.

my only thought was..."why the heck isn't everyone piling off that bus??"....no way would i stay on that bus and ride with that guy or bother to hang around to see what was going to happen next...my family's safety and sanity is too important!! i would have been off that bus and hailing a cab before the orange vested security guard even showed up!
