Bus from DTD to BC

Everyone says the bus service from DTD is horrific. We are doing a split stay and, for the first time EVER, will not have a car. On the morning of our check out from POP, we plan on going to DTD to have breakfast at WPE and then I was going to have us take a bus from DTD to BC to check in to our new resort.

If we are not super-worried about timing, how long might it take to get a bus back from DTD on a Thursday morning in late January? Are there alternate resorts I should consider taking a bus to if we see one show up (like Boardwalk)? How much is taxi fare if it comes down to that?

for dtd the beach club bus shares with swan, dolphin, yacht club and boardwalk inn.

we stayed at BC and went to DTD. mind you, we left DTD later on on a saturday night--maybe around 10:30pm. it took around an hour to get back to BC, mainly because of ALL of the stops. we picked it up at the market place stop--it stopped first at the west end, and then at the swan, and then the dolphin, and then the yacht club and then the beach club. no matter what a cab costs, i'd pay it!

however, you are traveling at an off-time--in the morning, on a week day, in january. we were traveling in the evening, on a saturday...though it was in november, and the parks were pretty darn emtpy. DTD was the most crowded place we visited!

This probably isn't helpful for your situation, but this is what my family likes to do to avoid the #$@% DTD bus back to the BC when we are headed back in the early evening- park admission required, though.

When we are done at DTD we take a boat to either POR, POFQ, Saratoga Springs or Old Key West, then take a bus from there to EPCOT and spend some time there before walking back to our resort.

It probably takes more time, but is a much more relaxing way back for us. The boat is peaceful and we always enjoy an ride on Space Ship Earth and maybe time it to watch Illuminations.

Hmmmm.....I like your idea, but don't the boats get even more backed up than the buses (and start later, too)? And do you know where, in relation to WPE, the boats are? We have *never* used Disney transportation for DTD, so Im not even sure where the buses are in the Marketplace area.

I wish we hadn't tried WPE for breakfast on our last trip....now we *have* to go have it again, even though it's very inconvenient!!! :)

DTD bus service is very sporadic in the morning; because almost all of the buses are trying to get people to the parks.

They do what is referred to as "dead-heading." They will dispatch buses on the way to parks that may not be needed for a couple of minutes over to whatever bus queue is the fullest. It is never guaranteed that you will be the one. I sat and waited for an OKW bus for almost 45 minutes this past year, because I was the only one at the queue.

You are better off walking to SSR and taking a park bus for a transfer to DHS, than take the boat over to the BC. It is the second stop after YC.

I actually don't know where WPE is. We are T-Rex and Lego devotees.

Do you have a map of DTD? If not, try to search for one here. I think there are 3 boat launches that take you from DTD to other resorts. The ride to OKW is the longest, I think, but it is pretty.

POR would probably be the quickest, but someone can hopefully confirm this.

You may want to post your question on the transportation board or search for info there.

BTW, we got a really funny look from the boat captain. He asked "Where are you going?" We said- wherever you are- we just want to get a bus to EPCOT.

Good luck!

I agree; the boat ride to OKW is the longest, but certainly the most relaxing.

It is quickest to walk over to SSR from WPE, since it is on that side of DTD.

The Epcot resort area is small. The easiest thing to do is take the bus from DTD and get off at the first stop, usually the Swan, and walk from there. It's a 5 minute walk.

Early in the day, the buses are not usually SRO but even if they are, it's not that far of a ride.

Here's one of Robo's maps that shows some of the DTD area.

Thanks for posting the map (Robo always makes such great graphic aids!)

OK...i didn't realize that end of DTD was so close to SSR. So that gives us some more options. Plus, the bus stop is apparently *very* close to WPE.

And for the poster who was wondering, WPE, is Wolfgang Puck Express, I am guessing :thumbsup2
