Bus driver drops Tower of Terror bombshell?

My DD is traveling with a school group in Feb and ToT was included in the list of possible closures the sponsor of the trip said she got from the Disney YES people.

At this point I think it's safe to say that ANY attraction , entertainment or restaurant can close. I also think that people planning a visit to WDW or DL need to understand that this can happen at any time, if you plan a trip specifically to do a ride or see a show and are not flexible to anything else you will likely have some sort of disappointment. I know this is hard to hear and understand and is the source of many, many, many threads, but the more open you are when you come the better time you will have.
And before everyone comes out cyber screaming:
Yes, Disney wants you to plan 1800 days in advance, 60 days in advance, 30 days in advance
Yes, planning absolutely helps
Yes, it sucks when they change things last minute
Yes, Disney can do a better job at this
Ultimately it's your money, your time and your vacation so you should consider all of it before considering a trip to WDW and DL

UGH! Even just a rumor of this makes me incredibly sad. ToT is my favorite ride of any theme park anywhere. To me, it is a shining example of the very best of Disney Imagineering and fully themed from the time you begin walking up the little hill at the end of Sunset Blvd until you exit the gift shop. Re-theme Rock n Roller Coaster, knock down the Universe of Energy and put something new in, but I wish they would leave ToT alone!

Oh let's have a little fun with this. Elsa's castle? What could they possibly use as a backstory for an Elsa's castle ride that drops you 50' at a time?

BTW: I'm in the leave it alone camp. One of the best themed rides they have.

I guess I don't see what difference it makes. It's the ride that is fun. How it's themed is just a part of it, sure, but not that big of a deal. One thing I am sure of, whatever theme they were to opt to change it to, it will be still the same ride, with the same drops and I suspect, quite entertaining too.

When Anna, Kristoff, Sven, & Olaf fell off the snow-covered cliff with some having their body parts askew.

Its a shame that the plans for GoG for epcot got scrapped, Epcot is in desperate need of it.

I hate the ToT ride, but it is one the best themed attractions in all of WDW IMO. I hope they leave it alone.

I disagree, I hate the actual ride but I love the theme, its even worth the stand-by line.

I hate the ride itself, but I love the theming.

I have inside info that the ToT will become an Elsa's Ice Palace attraction in 2020 after Star Wars is finished.

Disney will keep the "terror" theme in tact. You will take a "sleigh" (not an elevator) into a cave (the elevator shaft) where you will sit while Let It Go is blasted at you for 13 minutes. Then you will be sent back down in your sleigh and allowed to exit.

Scary stuff....

There are few examples of attractions which get everything absolutely perfect.

ToT definitely fits this:

Setting, Music, Location, Presence, Duration, Story, Costumes, Throughput, Lighting, Layout, Special effects, level of thrill/excitement are all perfect with this attraction.

There is little about the attraction which could be improved in my view, to retheme it would be a monumentally stupid decision which if true will be hard to beat. I am beyond surprised this is even being considered and it honestly makes me question if the management have any clue what makes the Disney Parks so special in the first place. It really would be a new level of stupidity.

The theme on this ride is extremely detailed and it is fun to pick out all of the tiny references. If I just wanted fun rides I wouldn't bother with Disney World. There are a ton of parks that are cheaper and have better rides mechanically speaking.

If they want to add Guardians of the Galaxy to the park I would like to see them build a NEW ADDITIONAL attraction, not mess with one that already commands a long line on most days.

I adamantly disagree. I appreciate the theming much, much more than the physical ride itself.

While I love the theming and can stand in line for a hour and not mind because there is just so much to see and the music is perfect, it's the ride I really enjoy so as long as they keep the drop I guess I'd be o.k. with it, not thrilled but o.k. It looks like HS is going away from the original concept of the workings of movies and changing to being a park associated with popular specific movies. It's a shame since I loved the whole look and feel of sunset blvd., I even loved walking around the streets of New York and looking in the windows but what are you going to do? It is what it is and I'm glad I got to go when the back lot tour was actually a real back lot tour and they were actually filming things there. I'm sure I'll still enjoy the park no matter what they do with it, even though I'm not a huge fan of Toy Story and just so so with Star Wars.

I think it is really sad that they are moving away from the original idea for the park. I'm just glad I got to experience it all at least once in my life. I wish I had spent more time there on my last 2 trips.

:thumbsup2
Sorry but for once a bus driver has it almost correct. This was leaked yesterday on the wdwmagic forums and that guy knows his stuff more than most. SO yep I believe it will happen unless the one in California is a flop. (lets hope) This was initially scrapped but now is apparently back on the table with the GOTG overlay in Epcot being scrapped. Don't think he said it will be at the end of the year but it is on the horizon. Nothing was mentioned of Elsa but yes to GOTG. So for all the bad rap bus drivers get it was nice of him to tell those who don't make annual visits to get that ride in.

This is the same guy who said a decision about Soarin' getting a third theater would not happen until after TSMM third track was built to make sure it even helped. At the time he was posting this "fact" the third theater design work was complete and the CMs at the attraction already knew it would be closing down for the construction ... all they were waiting on was FEA to be done to coordinate. Since FEA was going to take longer, Soarin' closed anyway - upsetting many. No one with direct info from Disney execs is posting on boards.

Could it happen? yes.
The biggest nod to the possibility comes from Disney itself with the California makeover.
We just don't know if it will happen particularly since the supposed closure is over a year away...
...much can happen by then.
Rumors had it at ToT, then Ellen's, then scrapped and now back to ToT......
This also does nothing to help DHS or Epcot so in a way very wasteful of valuable money.

This is more a rumors board thread .....
