Bus driver drops Tower of Terror bombshell?

Last Saturday the bus driver taking us to Hollywood Studios said that Tower of Terror would be closed by end of this year and be replaced with, get this- "either Guardians of the Galaxy or an Elsa's castle attraction." (!?!?)

They actually announced this over the bus PA to encourage fans of TOT to make sure they fit one last ride in. Confused/misguided cast member or legitimate inside scoop? Seems implausible to me. I know Disneyland is getting the Guardians overlay, but this was on a WDW resort bus!

It wouldn't have been as funny though without the Elsa Castle.

I really don't think Disney would close Tower of Terror right now with all of the construction going on in Disney's Hollywood Studios already. Also, an Elsa castle attraction probably wouldn't happen since there is already a Frozen ride at Epcot. Also, Guardians of Galaxy is rumored to be going to Epcot. I wouldn't trust bus drivers with this type of information.

bus drivers get bored and they hear every possible incorrect thing. probably someone got on the bus saying how they love tot and happy frozen is barely in HS now and he decided it would be funny to tell them their worse nightmare.

Spirit is back and says that Disney execs are liking the plans for the DCA ToT redo so much so that DHS is also going to get it... However it won't come until after Toy Story opens in 2018.

He says Ellen's Energy Adventure has new plans that if it happens would open for the WDW 50th. He does not give an IP but says that Tron was one of the ideas tossed around.

He says WDI had plans for the guardians coaster in Epcot but costs sky rocketed and passed up the cost of radiator springs racers which is the most expensive attraction Disney has built. The coaster would have been similar to the planned Captain america coaster for DCA.

I bet it was the same bus driver that someone had last week. He told them to make sure to go to Jungle Book and to make sure and catch Indy and Muppetvision at HS as they are going away to make room for Star Wars Land.

Changing the best ride in all of WDW would make me very upset.I'm looking at the rethemed DCA Guardians of the Galaxy tower and I don't even like how it looks,and that's on top that I haven't even seen that movie,leave TOT as it is,its perfect!!!

Have you ever stood next to those WDW buses for any length of time? With the fumes they give off, I'd be pretty loopy too if I had to sit in one for 8 hours at a time.

Sorry but for once a bus driver has it almost correct. This was leaked yesterday on the wdwmagic forums and that guy knows his stuff more than most. SO yep I believe it will happen unless the one in California is a flop. (lets hope) This was initially scrapped but now is apparently back on the table with the GOTG overlay in Epcot being scrapped. Don't think he said it will be at the end of the year but it is on the horizon. Nothing was mentioned of Elsa but yes to GOTG. So for all the bad rap bus drivers get it was nice of him to tell those who don't make annual visits to get that ride in.

With all the rumors that seem to come from "expert" sources that aren't actually Disney employees, I'll take it with a grain of salt. Until WDW officially says "Yes, we're closing ToT and this is what we're doing", and the ride actually closes, to me it's all speculation. How many different GOTG rumors have there been, none of which have actually happened. Even if Disney is talking about it and someone hears of it, doesn't mean it WILL happen. I'm sure WDW puts ideas on the table that never make it to reality on a regular basis. I don't know for sure, but I'd guess that's part of the "Imagineering" process.

I don't even ride it, but I love it just the way it is. Time to buy more merch before it's too late. It's DH's favorite ride in all of Disney.
