Had new carpet installed on Friday. DW wanted burgandy!! We had graish-blue before. So, now we have burgandy carpet in the great room, down the hall, and in the main bath. It sure is pretty, buy my God we have vacumed 5 times since Friday!!!!!!And the neighbor kid just brought over saltine crackers and thought he was going to eat them in the living room!!!!!! Man, being a house daddy on the weekends is tough!!!!!!

LOL Tony... poor guy...
All the neighborhood kids know.. YOU DON"T WEAR SHOES INTO THE MAHAN HOUSE AND YOU ONLY EAT IN THE KITCHEN...
I have a sign on the door requesting people to remove their shoes.. basically it is for the hordes of children that wander into our home. Also everytime a new parent comes to pick up one of there kids they stand in the entry and say.. "omg, Julie(danny, pete, bob, jessica etc) was right... your house is sooo clean..
How do you do it?? Then when I call the kids down from the playroom, she hears Cameo say to the visitors.. "OK, first we have to pick up the toys"..
I am raising neurotically clean children.. that does not seem to stop their friends from visiting.. we always have a houseful of kids.
Would you believe our house has light beige carpeting everywhere?? Yup we own our own steam cleaner.. what else...

When we were in the market for carpeting a couple of years ago I wanted to get green carpet for the living room. The lady at the store advised us on a tan/beige color. I was afraid because of 3 kids and a dog, but she said the darker the color the more specks show up. She was right.

We were on vacation and the place we stayed had burgundy carpet. EVERY little speck and crumb showed up and stood out.

We also have a no shoe policy in our house. :D

I feel that carpet is meant to be walked on, with and without shoes. I let people walk in my home with shoes on. I also let the kids have fun when they play,in fact my livingroom right now looks like a kid tornado hit it! It will be cleaned when the kids are done.I like the fact that the kids would rather play here and that they love coming to my home, I like being known as the fun home and not the mr clean house!
I have huntergreen carpeting, its great because it hides all spilled drinks. IT is not great for cream colored dog hair, but thats better than having mauve colored carpeting that get trashed in a yr!But then again I even let the dog on the furniture.
I'd rather have a home that people feel comfortable coming to and spending time in that one that is the cleanest house on the block.(notice I said house, not home?)I'm not out to impress anyone, I'd rather go for comfort than appearance. If I wanted a showplace I'd live in the display windows at the local department store!

We put burgundy carpet in our MB. It is truly a lovely carpet, but with a golden retriever who loves to sleep in our room, it is impossible to keep clean. I vacuum my bedroom 2-3 times a week. Alot of maintenance but a beautiful room.....
:D

We have black in our familyroom and it might as well be white!!! YUCK!!! I can imagine that burgandy is not much different!!!

I am a big believer in matching the dog and the furniture/carpet colors. Dark dog, dark carpet/furniture. Light dog, light carpet/furniture.

Broke my own rule about a year ago, I own a light dog and a dark dog!!!

The plan works great as long as you stick with it!

I guess you did not know that a happy, healthy, responsible set of kids are being raised in my tidy, clean home.. it is possible to do so:( really

LOL jrmasm!!! That is an ideal way to have pets. We have two black scotties... I am ]thankful they don't shed much, as they have run of the house....

I have a deep cranberry carpet, an American Eskimo, and a Golden Retriever. I usually vacuum at least twice a day, every day. I do have a bit of a vacuum fetish though. :D

Tony Tony Tony!!!! Didnt we just talk about this the other day??? tsk tsk tsk!!! ;) I thought for SURE we had you talked out of the burgandy carpet!! LOL

I know what you mean buddy us wives get what we want eh? ;)

Anyway, yikes! Thanks for sharing you story you have convinced me that the verigated beige is the way to go! :)

Hope it gets better :)

I never said that your kids weren't being raised good. But I'm not one of those moms that are a cleaning fanatic that other kids make fun of either. My kids know responsibility and they clean up their messes when they're done too, but my livingroom is just that, A livingroom where we live. Its not a show place where people feel uncomfortable. Its a home. not a house.

Before I moved to Seattle, I thought it was really rude when people asked you to take off your shoes in their house (except in cultures where this is the norm). I was taught you should always try to make your guests feel comfortable. In Seattle it is pretty much the norm to have people take off their shoes because it rains so much.

I still don't make people take off their shoes though. My carpets pay for it, but I'd rather everyone was comfortable and not stressed out about messes.

I also have burgundy carpet in the MB(5 years) and hunter green in the gameroom (for 6 years). I have a golden retriever and a black cocker spaniel. Hardwood floors throughout the main living areas are also no picnic with a big, golden, dustbunny machine! I vacuum EVERYWHERE at least twice per day. As much as the dark carpeting is a hassle, when it is vacuumed it looks absolutely gorgeous. Very few stains are obvious on dark carpet. 6 in one, 1/2 dozen in the other, I guess!!

I agree that dark carpeting does look lovely. The boys had navy carpeting in their bedroom of the old house, It always looked great when you could find it under their clothes.:D

As for the shoe removal thing.. we started doing this when we lived in Hawaii as it was customary. Now it just helps cut down on carpet cleaning time. I always let adults know that they don't have to remove their shoes and that the sign is meant for kids. I feel I am a gracious hostess... I have yet to tackle a visitor to remove his keds;)

We entertain a great deal.. but I will honestly tell you I don't serve Red Wine or Red Kool-Aide.. I have never found an effective cleaner for either of these.... BUT the burgandy carpet may change that serving selection;)
See T. maybe there can be a benefit to the burgandy carpet!

I live near Seattle and we wear our shoes in the house too! On the plus side though, our Miniature Schnauzer doesn't shed. My concession to cleanliness is that the poor dog gets carried to the laundry sink first for paw cleanup everytime it's wet outside. I've trained her to romp around on the doormat before coming in, but it doesn't seem to quite do the trick!

I've been amazed at what our light beige carpets will hide. I still have people comment on how clean our house always is and kids know they do clean-up at our house when they're done playing and only eat in the kitchen. That's just good training IMHO.

When we were house hunting we went to a house where we had to put on surgical booties before entering! I hope they just did that while the house was on the market! (I have to admit, it was more convenient than taking my shoes off!)
