Bummer

That is such a bummer. I had some left over disney dollars from a trip maybe $50 or so and I have still never found them anywhere in the house.

I can't bring your money back, and believe me, I am sorry you lost it, but maybe I can make you feel at least a little bit lucky. A few weeks ago I had a really bad experience. Went to Burger King in the town I live in and I put my purse on the back of the chiar (never again) and when I got up I had my keys in one hand and my cup in the other. That must've kept me occupied, I threw my cup away and went on my way. Got home and realized when I went to get out of the car that I didn't have my purse. FLEW back to BK- I am talking we were gone a total of 17-18 minutes MAX, and my purse was gone. Pretty obvious- when we were leaving there wasn't anyone in the section where we were sitting at and the cashier was cleaning tables. I had to kinda squeeze by her in order to get out the door. Her boyfriend who does not work in there was standing there talking to her and she was probably 3 tables away from ours. When we got back there still wasn't anyone sitting in our section and our tables was cleaned-chairs pushed in and all, and no purse. No one "seen" it. I think she told her boyfriend that I left it there and to go get it and get outta here. The detective says he suspects her also- guess they've had other purses and things left in there come up missing too. So......drivers license, credit cards, check book, all my pictures and everything ....GONE!! I had a registration to a dingy boat (rubber raft type thing) in there that I really could use back! And they (who ever it was) tried to use my credit card the very next day-thank goodness I had everything cancelled by then! No the place they tried to use it didn't take it from them. Unfortunatley.Sorry to ramble, but I just wanted to tell you I kinda can relate to how you feel, though mine wasn't quite so much money.

shefor24....that's awful! I hope the detectives also advised you to put a statement on all three of your credit reports: trw, trans union and equifax. Call each company up and put a fraud alert on your credit report so if the person/people that stole your purse try to use your identity to get new credit, you'll be covered. If you need any further info let me know! Good luck!

the disney dollars have serial numbers and are validated with a transaction number if they are franked through their register system upon purchase? If you kept your receipt seperate (which I always do just in case the items are lost) chances are if the dollars were to be used at the Disney store, the CM may have been able to flag them with the transaction number. Don't know if this is possible at Disney, but I was able to recover a lost bag for a customer through this method when someone tried to return the items for cash. Just a thought.

bummer again, oh well, we will definitely exchange ideas / experiences when we are both back from cruisin'.

keeping fingers crossed for your lost dollars.

Hey PhillyCB, I forgot to mention also, I will be getting off of our cruise when you are getting on. We sail (first timers) Oct 24-27.

wouldn't it be too way cool to be able to leave "secret messages" onboard somewhere. You know, like a Nancy Drew story with a note or a picture tucked away somewhere onboard and we could exchange emails telling each other where to look?

You know, like under the cushion on the third deck chair from the left on the deck 7 aft verandah? We could leave them there our last day and then the next visitors could go there and pick them up?

Okay, we'll have to do some research and come up with a publicly accessible location on the ship where a secret message can be hidden.

You will leave the message and I'll retrieve it. Then if rere is game, I'll do the same thing for her. We'll use the same spot, that will make it easy.

Now to put on my thinking cap and come up with a place. I'm going to go to some of the picture websites and check them out to see what I can find, we have a few weeks to work this out.

:smooth:

I'll be thinking of someplace too. Too bad I didn't have access to a computer during our trip, I could just tell you to look under a certain thing. hehe Let me know. I feel so sneaky.

Hola Laura 24....Unfortunately, the receipt was in the bag. I did ask the CM's if someone came in right away with 20 tens to spend, could they ask for a reciept. But, of course, you don't need a recpt to spend Disney Dollars.........Oh well, I am better today. A learning experience for sure !!!!;)

Hi Brittsmum!! Looking forward to seeing you in October so we can talk Disney! I love when my Dis friends come in!! see you soon... Jenn

rere and shefor24,

I was thinking of the aft verandah on deck 7, it's away from everything and from what I've read at castawayclub.com, it's quiet and seldom used.

if there are cushions on the deck chairs, maybe pick say the third chair from the left in the front row and put it under the cushion. You know something like that.

Maybe the first cruiser could leave a picture, the second [me] could pick it up and leave a picture for the third cruiser. I'm having an intellectual interlude about who's first and who's last right now. I blame it on lack of estrogen, my DH says it's the blonde hair.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. if you'd prefer not to use the board for this, you can email me. just click on the button. When I reply to that email I'll send you my email address if you want.

Isn't this fun?????????

CB and shefor24

Maybe we shouldn't be acting so "clandestine', given
the current security concerns everywhere. It sounded like a hoot, but I'd rather not make plans that could be misinterpreted. Maybe we can send messages through crew members ??? Okay, you can call me a party pooper........:(

rere,

you know you are absolutely correct. I never thought about that. certainly wouldn't want to create any problems onboard. Disney is the one place you don't want to have to worry. I'll send an email to Barb and see what she thinks, maybe Sasha the Croation sensation would be a willing messenger.

I'll let the thought chase itself around inside my head for a while and see what floats to the surface.

Yes, that would be fine with me if we go thru a crew member. That would be fun too. You are right about security- I would hate to have to get off the ship in Nassau because of security reasons. HOW EMBARRASSING!! :D

Just trying to answer the earlier post about using DD onboard the ships.

Disney Dollars cannot be used to purchase items in the shops or for drinks or anything else. They can be used to settle your account at the end of the cruise. The same holds true for good ole' regular cash. Can't be used onboard to purchase, only to pay off bill at the end or to be put upfront to charge against.

The ship is "cashless" and everything purchased must be put on your Key To The World card.

Hope this makes sense.

MJ
