Now that we figured out that the digital camera was most likely stolen out of DH's truck, I'm bummed about it. We are lucky in that we just got copies of all the photos made after our cruise (or at least our Disney/cruise photos). I think we got everything! But someone out there may have a LOT of memories of my family from 12/02 to last week, since DH had 3 or 4 memory cards in the camera case. Not only have I lost my own memories, I have to worry about what some sicko might do with photos of my children. Plus our name and address is in the case (in case it is lost, haha). I guess that's good if it is "found", but now I also have to make double sure the house is always locked tight.:(
It reminds me of the time in 97 when my purse was stolen and I lost precioius baby wallet photos of my girls, although this time I have more access to my photos.
DD#1 is at a mission camp until Sunday PM. We just got another smaller, cheaper digital (a Kodak) and she wanted to take that one, but I told her NO and bought her a disposable. There is a 1% chance she took the nice one--as soon as she gets back and I'm sure it's gone, I told DH we have to report it stolen in case bad things happen later. If doctored photos show up on the web, I want a permanent record that the camera was taken. I am also going to call pawn shops in the city tomorrow.

A bummer, Robin. I do hope it is just misplaced or maybe your DD has it. If it was stolen, I am sure the person/s want it just for the camera, try not to fret about the pictures being used. My best, hope it turns up soon.

That stinks! I agree with Dan that they most likely only want the camera. We try and never keep pictures in the camera. As soon as we get back from vacation they all get downloaded to the computer and then the camera is cleared. This give us space for more pictures too! When we had enough stored DH then burns 3 CD's full of pictures. 1 for him, 1 for me (for making cards, scrapbooking etc., and 1 goes in a fireproof safe.

I hope it turns out well for you.

UPDATE! My mom just called and asked if Mrs. so and so was my neighbor, and I said "right next door"--in the local crime reports for the suburbs, this neighbor has a theft of credit cards from her car listed! She had told us Thursday night when we saw her that her debit card was stolen and they rang up $1500 in charges, but why the heck didn't she say it was from her car in the driveway right next door!? It all would have made much more sense! DH's license and camera probably disappered that same night! Unfortunately she isn't home (they leave a lot of weekends--late 20s, no kids) so I don't know what night this happened, but as soon as DH gets back from the store we are calling the PD and filing a report. He has been missing his license since Monday and got a new one already, but I'm glad I put that fraud alert on yesterday!
You know, when my purse got stolen out of my car 7 years ago in my old neighborhood, I warned all of my neighbors within about 10 houses!

I think I must just be paranoid, but I never leave things like cameras or purses in the car. We went through a period about 15 or so years ago where between the underground parking at our apartment block and the parkade my mother parked in for work, our car was broken into about every other month. After getting the window replaced for the 4th time we finally just started leaving the doors open. I think at one point I put a sign in saying "there's nothing of value in here, everything's already been stolen".

Our digital is fairly old and bulky, but still takes good quality photos so we still use it. If I'm not prepared to carry stuff around with me all the time, I don't take it.

Even with having a house with a garage where the car doors are locked, and the garage is locked, I STILL don't leave valuables inside the car.

I think all it takes is a few bad experiences and you become super-conscious of these things.

You are very right about that. Since my purse got stolen I have been known to go check and make sure the car is locked in the middle of the night if I have to have my vehicle outside, even if the purse is in the house. DH did use the camera for work quite a bit, which is why it was in his truck, and I could smack him for leaving it in the truck, but he feels pretty bad about it already.
The policeman said they probably tossed the camera case and sold the camera at a pawn shop--and when I asked if we should check them, he said not to bother, they don't "hold" things anymore and we'd just have to buy our own camera back. He said someone probably sold it for drug money.
