I was starting to look forward to planning where we eat (although i have already picked 90%) with my boyfriend for the 180 slot but now I am going to have to wait even longer! We got the free dining and it will be the first time we book ADR's so was wanted to get it sorted and out the way. do you think they will stick to the new restriction or is it just temporary?

From what I've read (communication to Disney Employees from the Disney Intranet) it's a permanent change.

Pumbaa_ did a poll a little while ago about what your ideal booking window would be. I'll have to dig that up and give you the link (It's probably pretty buried) Not that Disney listens to polls on the Dis, but sometimes it feels good to vote for what you want.

 Sorry that you're bummed out by the change.

What's important to keep in mind is that that poll (where more than half of the folks wanted a restriction of 90 days or even less) is of WDW fans. Figure that just-regular-folks would tend to plan meals even less time in advance of a visit.

It's funny how different people read the poll differently. I don't see it so much as 50/50 (90 vs 180) I see it as about 66% of the people want something shorter than 180.

No right or wrong way to see it, just offering how my view is different from your bicker.:goodvibes

However, I do agree - an objective poll isn't the real result here among Disney Planning Fanatics. I think it's just more fun and a topic of conversation.

Well, actually, I think you and I see it pretty much the same way, i.e., that the old 180 days was too long. I suspect other folks would see it completely differently from you and I, i.e., that "almost half" of the people want the longer period for making ADRs. My point was that, in response to that, that the general public would probably make thing lean towards the shorter periods than the longer periods.

Yeah, well "objective online poll" is an oxymoron. I think our best indication of the reality (how many people want things to be which way) is what Disney's actually done. They make decisions based on the professionalism, expertise, and objective market research, and what have they done? Shortened the period from 180 to 90... :teacher:

I think they will stick to it and I for one and thrilled with the new 90 day policy!

When i called Disney last week (I think) I was told that the change would not be permanant and that they did it only while getting the new online ADRs in order. Not that this is gospel truth but it's what I was told on the phone.

My understanding is that was originally the case, and then later the decision was to make this change permanent. Whoever you spoke to last week, perhaps, didn't have the latest information, which is only a week or two old.

well i have been on these boards for about a year now and all I kept hearing was 180 days! in normal everyday life i wouldn't dream of booking a restaurant that far out but accepted that this was the disney way.

I had march in my head as a milestone to get me excited but now its been pushed back. so thats really the bummer

but the change is a good one!

There is a very long explanation in the monster ADR sticky thread at the top of this forum. To best follow the history of this (90 days, system upgrade, etc) you could read that. The first post isn't reflective of the history, but rather the most current information. The rest of the thread though will walk anyone interested through the pains of the changes.

However, the change is permanent. Well at least permanent for Disney (where anything can change, and ultimately WILL change over time).

This information is based on an internal document dated 12/23/08, which indicates that the 90 days is a permanent change.

It's a permanent decision (my daughter is a Cast Member) at first I thought I would miss the 180 days since we are DVC members and are there 3 times a year, but the more I thought about it, we actually change our minds at least 3 times after we make our original ADR's. So making it closer may make for less changes.
