Hi,
We have been looking at fly drives with Virgin for next Sep/Oct ( 2010 ).
The prices are coming up at around £2000 + ( 2 adult 2 kids )
However I think that I am looking at around £1600 flying with Virgin Atlantic ( I think - prices not out yet ).
Would it be cheaper to book car hire separatley??? Or should I just go all in with Virgin:confused3

When you priced Virgin did you go all thru the process of adding insurance? many people price up fly drives but don't realise insurance is on top of quote.
I just did a dummy 14 nights from 5th Oct 2010, £1992 but car ins was on top.
Have you also priced up a package rather than flydrive, Some dates I was looking at were same price incl hotel as the flydrive. We did a Virgin package a few years ago, 3 weeks flydrive was £2,100, 3 weeks incl hotel (BW lakeside) £1,600:confused3 was same again this past Xmas, flydrive £2,100, package incl hotel(Fairfield Inn LBV) £1,740

Car rental will be around £300-350 depending on size of car, this price is for Intermediate-Full size

Hi,
Thanks for that WAYNEG. We have priced up a package, but it works out cheaper to go with our timeshare for 2 weeks.
However!!! We have been talking about going for 3 weeks:cheer2: I suppose I could see about getting a package with flights and Hotel ( hotel for 1 week though ) Do you think that would work???
We want to stay onsite for the extra week if poss, I must say that AKL and free DDP is very appealing.
Hubby will find out if he can take the 3 weeks off work, next week, then the planning can really begin!!:woohoo:

I suppose I better add this!!
I am frightened to death of flying, which I know is really irrational and I refuse to let it stop me from taking my children on Holliday.
The thing that is comforting me is that Hubby has promised to fly with Virgin or BA. I don't think I could handle a stop over or be really uncomfortable in my seat which is why we have chosen these 2 airlines.
I know there are other options out there, but for our 1st time flying for that length of time, I want to be comfortable!!
Thanks again

Just got a bit more time to look some more, if you are doing 2 weeks also check Travel City Dirct, now Virgin. Same dates as above 5th Oct for 2 weeks 2 ad & 2 ch £1722.00 incl hotel but I believe you have to take their car, didn't go that far. It might be as cheap to book their cheapest hotel and use your timeshare and not their hotel, we once did that when we went on a cruise.

You have to look at all options, see which is cheapest for your dates.
