Building Castles in the Sky - an Oct 2012 PTR *Update 9/20- Day 3 Plans!*

If you had to choose between the 2, at which park would you spend the day: DHS or AK?

  • Disney's Hollywood Studios

  • Animal Kingdom

I just started reading your PTR...and I am not very far yet! But I did have to just jump in and say I could never go to Disney and not visit ALL of the parks!

Followed you over from my PTR. Now to go back and read...

:welcome:

Hi, and :welcome: ! I know what you mean... it will be a little weird not going to AK on our trip. I just have to console myself with the fact that we're planning to go back next year! :thumbsup2

I'll take one of each, k? Thanks.

:rotfl2:

You and me both!

Wrapping up another week... and the official last day of our summer vacation! School starts tomorrow, so I really should go to bed and get a good night's sleep, as my girls are doing.

But here's this week's Random WDW Photo:

DSCF0405.jpg

Yours truly, aboard the PeopleMover last year on my "girls only" trip!

Gotta love the people mover!

School starts already?? You start early in the south! I never went back to school until after Labor Day.

It's weird for me to think that kids are going back to school already! Up here, it usually doesn't start until the first full week of September so I can't imagine being in school in August :scared:

It seems so early for school to be starting!!!

When I was in school it started the day after labor day!! It seems like they start earlier and get more breaks now! We had Christmas break and spring break and that was it!!

Wow, so if that countdown pic was taken last week, then you must be in the 60's by now! I was happy that my countdown hit the 80's yesterday (88 days today! :cheer2:)

Love the Peoplemover pic, I can't wait to go on there again, one of my favorite Disney rides ever! :dance3:

70 days!! Well, less now!
Holy cow, school already? Wow, that seems so early!

Yep, school down here starts mid-August (though it seems like it starts earlier and earlier each year!) The plus-side is since they start so early, my kids get out of school way before Memorial Day! Last year, May 18th was the last day of school... I think it's May 22nd this year!

61 days, to be exact! Almost in the 50s now, woohoo! :woohoo:

We started Aug 6th and get out the 22nd also.

Now that my trip is closer (less than 2 months! :woohoo: ), I thought I'd share the detailed plans for each day!

And I use the word "detailed" very loosely… with this trip being to celebrate our anniversary, the point is to spend time together, not Go! Go! Go! while in the parks (which is our usual game plan.) Plus, it being such a short trip there's no way we'll be able to see/do everything. But I'm a firm believer that one must have some idea in mind of what one wants to do while at WDW… some people can "wing it", but I am not one of those people. If we didn't have a plan in mind, Shane and I would have the following conversation (several times a day):

Me: Now what to do you want to do?

Shane: I don't know. What do you want to do?

Me: Well, we could do ______. Or we could do _____. So, which do you want to do?

Shane: Doesn't matter. What do you want to do?

Me: I'm ok with whatever you want to do.

Shane: I don't care, whatever you want to do is fine.

Me: OH FOR THE LOVE JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.

Since this trip is for our anniversary, maybe it's best we try to not annoy one another! ;)

Also, there is a teeny chance we might tweak our itinerary a little bit, but as of now here are the plans for Sunday, our Arrival Day:

Well, actually, we'll start with the night before. DDs will be staying with Shane's mom while we're gone, so we'll go ahead and take them over to her house Saturday evening. No sense in getting them up at o'dark thirty when they can just go ahead and spend Saturday night with their Nana.

And speaking of the night before… I'm hoping to actually get a decent night's sleep! Usually the night before we leave for any vacation, I'm still up until the wee hours of the morning, finishing the laundry and packing. But since it's just the two of us on this trip, I'm hoping to get the packing done well before bedtime.

The plan is for Shane and I to leave our house absolutely no later than 5:30 a.m. It's a 10-hour drive to WDW from our house… and that's not including any stops! Factoring in breakfast/lunch/restroom breaks it should take around 12 hours. My hope is to get to POR by 5-ish. We'll check in, unpack the car, freshen up, then head over to DTD. Depending on the time, we may walk around DTD a bit… if not, we'll head straight to our 7 p.m. ADR at Raglan Road! This will be a new restaurant for us both, and we're looking forward to it. I'm already pouring over the menu, trying to decide what to order!

Sometime during the evening (maybe during dinner?) I plan to give Shane an anniversary card letting him know I have a surprise in store for the next day. I was going write in the card something along the lines of, "Your anniversary surprise is waiting for you at Epcot tomorrow! The bad news is we have to be at the park by 7:30 a.m. But the good news is the reason we have to be there so early is we're doing the Segway Around the World Tour!" (I haven't worked out the wording yet)

BUT… DDs suggested I don't tell him what the surprise is, just that there is one and that we have to be at the park by 7:30. And just let Shane find out what the surprise is when we get to the park and check in for the Tour. Hmmmm...

I thought about scheduling a carriage ride for this evening, but decided against it. Since I don't know how long dinner will take, and if we will feel like walking around DTD afterwards, especially if we don't get a chance to do so before dinner… I didn't want to be tied down to a carriage ride reservation. If we do one, fine… if not, that's fine, too.

We'll have an early start the next day, so I'm hoping we can get a good night's sleep!

OMG, THIS. I absolutely hate having this conversation at anytime. Unfortunately, my DH is the king of "whatever you want to do it fine." There have been days that I get so fed up with constantly making all of the decisions that I have been known to say, "Tough. You are just going to have to make decision already!". And this is after I narrow down the options! He still won't choose! I know it seems like he is being nice and letting me do whatever I would like, but man does it grate on my nerves after a while. :rotfl:

Your first day plans look great! We get in relatively late on our first day as well (I think our plane is scheduled to land around 4:45, I am not sure because Air Tran keeps sending me "your itinerary has been changed" emails), so we are planning on heading out to DTD that first night as well.

That's usually what my fiance and I are like too! We didn't do that at Disney though :confused3

Day 1 plans look great! :thumbsup2 It would be awesome to be within driving distance to WDW, even if it was a long drive. A 10 hour drive would take us to somewhere around Portsmouth, NH so according to google, for us driving to WDW would take around 33-38 hours depending on traffic :scared1: It's not very doable :sad1:

I know! I like to plan things and be "in charge", but once in awhile it's nice NOT to be! Argh.

Whoa, that would be quite a drive! I'm actually hoping for our next family trip we'll be able to fly down. We've invited my mom and Shane's mom to come with us... it would be soooo much easier for us all to fly than to drive 2 cars!

Monday is our Epcot day!

As you recall, we will be off to a very early start. The original plan was to have breakfast in our room, and drive ourselves to Epcot in order to check in for our "Around the World" Segway tour at 7:30.

BUT. I just found out today that a new Segway tour is in the works starting in September! From AllEars.net:

Epcot guests will be able to enjoy a new Segway tour that explores Walt Disney's vision for a better tomorrow, and the results of that vision: The Florida Project and Epcot.

"Keep Moving Forward: See the World, Share the Dream Segway Tour" is a new three-hour experience that includes a Segway training lesson, breakfast at Sunshine Seasons, an in-depth tour of World Showcase, and an exclusive Disney pin.

I called Disney earlier today and confirmed that this new tour was taking the place of the "Around the World" tour, not just in addition to it. And I was also advised that our time may be changed from 7:45 to 8:00. The CM I spoke with said she thinks breakfast will be held first, then the instruction and tour… but until they actually start booking this tour they wouldn't know the details for sure (I think she said it starts September 22nd.)

So, we may eat a little something in our room or just wait and have our Sunshine Seasons breakfast. On one hand, I'm ok with the new tour… we get breakfast and another hour added for the same price I'd already paid. But that extra hour is going to eat into my Future World touring time!

With the original tour ending around 9:45, the plan was to head immediately to Soarin' to ride stand-by (if the wait wasn't too long) and/or grab FPs to use later. Then we were going to stick around FW until the WS opens at 11.

But if the new tour doesn't end until 11… hmmmmm. I'm sure we'll still head over to Soarin', but that may be the only FW attraction we get to, as I really want to start on the WS as soon as possible.

Whenever we do manage to get started on the WS, the plan is to take a leisurely stroll through the countries. We'll sample the F&W vendors for lunch, though I have a feeling I will need a CS meal, too! We've looked at the booth menus, and there's a lot more that Shane is willing to try than I am. I don't like much seafood. I don't like lamb. Needless to say, I'm not a very adventurous eater! So I'm thinking Shane and I may split an order of nachos or something to hold us (me) over until dinner!

And speaking of dinner, our ADR for Via Napoli is at 6:20. This is another new place we're looking forward to trying!

After dinner, we can finish with any countries we didn't get to or head back to FW. Neither of us has much interest in watching IllumiNations… I'd much rather go for another ride on Soarin'! And whatever else we didn't manage to get to earlier in the day… Spaceship Earth, for sure.

Once the park closes, we'll drive back to POR. I'm sure by then the early start and long day will have caught up to us and we'll crash for the night!

Be adventurous! Try some new stuff at F&W. It's all delicious! :)

Sounds like a great Epcot day.

First of all, we're at 50 days!

Well, almost 49. My trip is getting so close! I've even started packing a little, LOL! Sort of... I've set aside mine and Shane's Disney tees we plan on wearing. But I have already put my travel-size shampoo and conditioner in my travel bag!

And while I'm really excited about the October trip and spending time at the Happiest Place on Earth with my hubby... I am super-duper excited about a trip I booked today for next February!

It'll be another "girls trip", myself and three friends... and we're staying at AKL! And not only are we staying at AKL, we're staying CLUB LEVEL! And not only are we staying club level, we've also booked the Sunrise Safari! I seriously cannot wait for this trip! :hyper:
