The trade situation is weird- other people can add things from your inventory to the trade, so you really have to be careful with what you're accepting. I agree- it is confusing.

1) how do you get the fishing rod?

2) where do you get the new emotions?

3) where is the Choose a Slot screen?

The fishing pole comes from the "Bear Stuff" shop in Town Square. In the shopping scree, click the button with 3 question marks and you'll find it there.

A lot of different emotions come with the animals you buy and register on the website, or other codes. I don't think there's any way to get them in-game, but I could be wrong.

I'm not sure about the "Choose a Slot" screen- You're talking about the cheats that were posted a few pages back? I looked them up online and I think they're for the Nintendo DS game, not BuildABearville online.

I have a couple of bears that were gifts so I simply sent them an email saying that I have a couple older Build-A-Bears, but do not live close to a store so is there anyway I can get a code. I did not give them ANY information from birth certificates nor did I have to to get a welcome code (which I got today). So it seems it does not matter what you put in the email as long as you nicely ask for a welcome code!

You need to purchase a build a bear to register to the game, right?

Does it have a specific code or something in its box?

They do not sell them where I am, so if I ever considered joining I would have to buy one from ebay so I don't know how that would work if the bear code was used!

You don't need to purchase anything to register and play. Purchasing a Build-A-Bear opens the full version of the game. Chat, rooms, etc.
If you wanted to buy a bear, you may be better off purchasing directly from Build-A-Bear's online store.

The Build a Bear website is http://www.buildabear.com/ they have aton of cute animals (not just bears). Also I think a few other disers have sent them an email asking for a code and received one

I believe you get codes when you purchase those items for your real Build a Bears.

There is a cheer outfit located in the Bear Boutique. Click on the book tab that says character and look on page 3 of the book when looking under the full outfit selection. The cheer costume costs 2 store credits. You get 10 store credits with a welcome pass and you get more from a reciept code when purchasing from BAB stores.

Not sure where the guitar or avitar bunny ears come from. If anyone figures out this mystery for sure, please let the rest of us know.

i THINK i know where the guitars come from. They are from the performing arts center where you can only obtain the guitar by having a bear AND watching the hannah montana thing. but im not sure. ..

Well I googled the guitar. With the purchase of $15 or more at BAB stores April 15-May 15th, you were able to get a virtual guitar code.
