Bugs life at AK

Could someone give me idea what this is all about. Is it "cartoon" bugs or the real thing? I thought this was a cutesy show but after reading a few threads, I know different. DS is 4 and not the bravest sort. If I knew a little more about it, I could give him the gist of what it's about to see if he would rather sit that one out.

The Bugs in it are mostly characters from the Disney/PIXAR movie "A Bug's Life". Flik is there as is the scary Hopper (who is a very menacing animatronic). There are a number os scarry moments including tarantula attacks, acid spit onto the audience, and fly swatters swatting audience members on the head. If he is squeemish, I would probably recommend skipping it. I've see lots of kids older than 4 scarred at this show.

It is an animated movie with puppets, you get squirted and stunk out and more....

My daughter was scared when she was 4 but went again when she was 5 even though it scared her the year before. Go figure !!!

We took our kids to this attraction when they were 7 and 8 and had to leave. I felt like I was being assaulted (and I can't even see the 3-D effects!). My younger DD is a daredevil and did not enjoy this at all. I'm still curious about the show, but it really wasn't enjoyable being "sprayed" with bug spray; we felt like we were being suffocated!

i love bugs life, now my daughter used to love it, but last summer she would not go in with us . mind you she was 14.....lol. she said she didnt like it anymore......so we go in alone or ill tell her to sit kinda on the front of the seat so she doesnt feel all the BUGS... but she loves all the wild rides,space mtn. rockinroller, etc.....

It's a good show, but not for young children. My DD will not see it. We usually sit by the shows exit and wait for dad, and we see lots of parents leaving in the middle of the show with screaming children. It is very dark, loud and alot of special effects. But only you know what your child can handle.

When my son was 4, I had to take him out the exit screaming and that was after the first effect. Of course, my son found Disney less than "magical" at that age, so it's hard to say. My husband, who stayed for the show, said it was a "horror show" even for many adults.

I hate bugs and had always avoided this til our last trip. DH really wanted to try it. I was hoping it would be more cute than scary. It was awful. DD8, DD4, and I were clinging to each other and shaking all the way out. I love all the rides, but this was just terrible.

I love this attraction, but my 8 yr old nephew did not like it too much. You really have to decide whether or not your kids will be able to handle it. There's even a part when you get "stung".
It's one of my favorite attractions!!!

Our youngest son saw it when he was almost 5 and was absolutely horrified. We've been to WDW six times since then and he absolutely refuses to do it again. He also hates Honey I Shrunk the Audience in Epcot -- also dating back to that first trip although he has done it once since then. He does all the thrill rides, though.

A lot of it is in the dark and there are some really intense effects. I personally think the worst one is being sprayed in the face with bug spray. I would only take a 4-year-old if he could be described as very brave with absolutely no fear of the dark.

I don't like bugs much, but liked this show. They are more of the cartoon variety than real. The special effects are more real than the bug images. We kids were fine -- DD 4, DD 2, and DS 10 m. They aren't overly adventurous or overly easily scared - kind of middle of the road kind of kids.

Thanks for all the replies. I figure the more DS knows the better. We have started telling him about the "real" things at Disney and the "not so real". I hate to tell him everything about the attraction but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Is the rest of the audience "understanding" when you have to leave early if your child has a change of heart after the show starts?

Same here DD was 6 first time and scared to death. Kept her head in my lap the entire show. Now 13 she is of course fearless!! It's a cute show, but I agree with everyone else, not for your DS, at least not yet..

Maybe my 4 year old D is more brave then others at that age. She thought ITTBAB was great. Not scared at all. Of course she says being w/ her mama and daddy make her not scared of things. The only thing she didn't like was the snake in HISTA. I just explain things to her before we do things. So far so good.

My ds (9) went on all the rides and isn't afraid of much, but he doesn't like bugs. He didn't like It's tough to be a bug AT ALL. He didn't cry or anything, but he said he'd NEVER see it again!

I loved it, but I think if you're squeamish about bugs, it could be a problem.

My DD is 14 now and still won't ride it. She just doesn't like the 3D experience (except for Philharmagic) Guess it just depends on the kid.

My DD5 and DD9 (at the time) loved it. Can't wait to take my DN5 in October!
