Bugs in Orlando

I wouldn't bother just stick with sunscreen. :sunny: I've been to Orlando the months of Feb,March & April and have never seen a mosquito. Then again I live in the northern most town of Maine which is Mosquito World! :rolleyes2 Enjoy the Sun! :sunny:

I bring repellant just in case. The only time we really needed it was when we were on the beach at the Polynesian for the EWP in May 2003 but that one time we REALLY needed it.

I have been eated alive by no see ums while waiting for Spectro in the MK. I have also gotten bitten really bad outside at the WL during dusk. I always bring bug spray with me. Better to have it and not need it than not have it and have to pay a small fortune for it at the shop in the resort.

My mind works in strange ways. :sad2:

When I read the post subject, I was thinking Bugs Bunny in Orlando & how did he wind up on a Disney board...

Two weeks ago on EMH night at MK, I was eaten alive just walking from Crystal Palace to the entrance of Adventureland! It was around 8:00 pm, and we just left dinner at Crystal Palace, and were looking forward to EMH. But I got six huge bites in I guess just a few steps! My arms and leg started burning and swelling from the bites. I had no bug spray with me, so we actually turned around and left the park, returned to AKL and put on pants and light coats, and then returned to MK around 9:30, and then had a great time at EMH. It seems that bugs just love me, as rest of my family had no bites!

So bring the bug spray! Better safe than sorry!

If you have on suncreen do the bugs stay away as well , or should you put on both ? :confused3

i got a tip off these boards that said to use fabric softener sheets as bug repellant. They are less messy and smell better than bug spray. Not sure if it works, but its worth a try. They are lightweight and you can just rub 'em on your arms and legs as needed. If anyone has tried this unsuccessfully please respond.

Take the bug spray! We always spray when we are going to the parks at night. Florida mosquitos are the size of hawks....LOL
Make sure it is something with DEET in it to keep away the buggers...Skin So Soft and other similar stuff will only make you slippery.
We usually don't use it during the day, only in the evening.

Maybe we were just lucky, but we were there April 27 - May 7 and none of us ever saw or felt a bug of any kind. We were at POR, went swimming in the evening, and spent evenings at MK, Epcot, AK, Disney-MGM, and AKL. My wife is normally a mosquito magnet, so we were pleasantly surprised. But it sounds like some people do have been bitten recently, so you might as well just pick some up.

Take my advise and bring bug spray. Last year in May I landed in the hospital from some kind of horse fly bites I got at AKL while waiting for the bus. This was in the middle of the day to. My the second day after I got home cause this happened the days I was leaving I had to go to ER as my legs doubled in size from the bits. I was in the hospital overnite hooked up to IV's SO TAKE THE SPRAY.

I would. We were there May 1-8 and had several bites by the end.

We went to DW last April. I got eaten up by I don't know what at the AK. I don't know if it was chiggers or what. I was itchy for weeks. All I did was scratch. Take the bug spray.

You can also get bug repellant wipes. Cutters has them and they work great and do not take much room. We were there in December 2002 and did not notice any bugs but better safe than sorry. That is the eagle scout in me coming out.

In all the times we have been to WdW we have never really been bitten.. however on the last couple of nights last August I was eaten alive whilst waiting for lluminations...
It was really bad... anyway.. I would always take bug spray now.

We were also bitten in our room at Summer Bay - the only two places I have ever been bitten in the room is summer bay and Vistana Resort.

This year I'm trying a combination called Bug & Sun, SPF 30 and it contains DEET, but I'm also bringing Cutter Bug Repellent. Last year I was bitten by an insect I didn't even feel and my ankle swelled so much I could only wear my sandals with 3 buckles opened wide. Ugh!

I know some people don't seem to be bothered, but one daughter and I seem to be bug food!

We got back last night. We stayed at POR - party of 10. My daughter and I were eaten up. The rest of our party was not bothered. Not sure what species of bug as we never saw them. We have huge bites that start off like purple blisters, itch like crazy, ooze and then scab. Have no idea what got us but DO take bug spray or maybe some armor!!

We always bring a small spray bottle bug spray anytime we go away but we have yet to need it on any of our trips to WDW. Just lucky I guess. :)

I am a mosquito magnet - I am definitely bringing repellant!!!
