You are right, that should be a great lens for butterflies! Being able to stand back like that should keep them from flying away too quickly. Be sure to have Mrs Y post some of her pics! Unless of course, she lets you borrow it, then you can post yours.

If any get posted, they will be mine. She loves to shoot, but unless for a client, most of her pix go straight to the external HD and that is as far as they get. I'm hopeful that we can swap the lens back and forth some since the terms of the agreement are that it is a shared Mother's Day / Father's Day gift. I'll let you know how well that (somewhat optimistic) strategy pans out!

Thanks for the kind words on the pictures. Our daughter's dance recital is tomorrow night, and Mrs Y is eagerly anticipating using the new glass for that event. We are celebrating Mother's Day a day early to accommodate her!

Hope the recital goes well! I also recieved my Mother's Day gift a tad early this year. Dh gave me the go-ahead on the 85mm 1.8!! It arrived on Wed and I used it yesterday to take a few shots of our first grade play - widked bad lighting conditions! It perfomed beautifullyl!! ( the pics were not my kids or I'd post a sample!) Today, I get to play outside with it as my ds has a baseball game around 2:00!! I'm so excited - so I can imagine how your wife feels with her (ya'll's ) new toy!! Enjoy your weekend!

I think I may have to look at spending my stimulus money on a new zoom lens. I only have the lens that came with the Sony Alpha 100 body.
