Bugaboo strollers are more expensive than a lot of other strollers but I really want one, do you think they are worth it or is it all hype? Does anyone here have one and is it really better than other strollers? Also they have blue covers but I wasn't able to find pink covers on their website so...I don't know which one we will need yet but I did want everything to be the appropriate color so that will play a factor too.

Well it is a budget board...

I don't use strollers much... Often had the baby carrier on my chest (bjorn?) or my mcclaren.

If I had gotten a bugaboo with all the options I wanted... 1k+.

I don't use walking as my primary mode of transport.... Too rural. So it doesn't make sense when I only used it a few times / week vs several times a day.

I'm way too cheap for a Bugaboo stroller, but my friend has an Uppa Baby Vista, which is a smidge cheaper and it is lovely. It handles really well and I like that the seat flips around so you can have the baby facing you or looking out. One thing you can do is look for a used stroller on Craig's List, which my friend did and saved about $200. You can also look for last year's colors which are often discounted.

Personally, I would never spend $500-1000 on that. My friend had one, and she treated it better than the child she put in it!

Is it for you, or a gift? You are one good friend if it is a gift!

A friend of mine swears by hers but then in her case nothing else worked. Her daughter has a disability and none of the other strollers she tried supported her child right or made her comfortable. In her case the Bugaboo was her cheaper option since her other option was a kid kart wheelchair and the bugaboo was less that what her insurance woulden't cover on the wheelchair. She'll still have to get the wheelchair but now she can wait until her daughter is bigger for it. I don't know that I would shell out that kind of money though if it wasen't nessecary. I do love how they look though.

:thumbsup2

All I ever used was an umbrella stroller-easy to open and close

I have one! I've owned around 12 strollers from graco, maclaren, peg perego, britax, baby jogger, chicco, phil & teds, BOB and Bugaboo. My bug is by far my/my Daughter's favorite stroller EVER!

PS: I have a pink one ;)

I've been eyeing a lot of strollers recently wondering which ones are "worth it." How big is the bugaboo when folded up? I don't know anything about them, but would just caution you make sure whatever you get will fit in your car reasonably if you need it to go in the car. The last single stroller I got was huge when it folded and took up too much of my trunk (in a mini-van) so it was horrible to have to cart it around. Then I stopped taking it places and never had a stroller to use... currently I have a combi double and it feels wobbly, but is actually holding up well under our abuse. (my kids are little demons some days)

Couldnt imagine dropping that on a stroller. Heck I am not even sure I dropped that on my children's accessories added together. My most expensive stroller was $32 and I cried spending that. My $12 umbrella is the best stroller ever. Comfy for DS, light and compact for me. Best of all if it is ruined I only spent $12 on it.

The bug takes up as much space as most other full size strollers. It does comes apart in two pieces(frame/seat). I like that because of the flexibility on where it could put each piece in the car. We drive large SUV's so size was a non-issue but I have a friend has one and drives a civic- It fits just fine in her trunk with room to spare. It's definitely a stroller you have to see in person to consider it. I would never purchase a stroller without "playing" with it first. It's definitely not a one size fits all kind of stroller.

I always loved them but didn't want to buy new and couldn't find a used one locally. I bought my Chico umbrella new (it reclines enough I could use it from about 5 mos and up)....I think it was $70 with shipping and two kids have used it.....other than a few stains it has held up great (and it has gone to WDW 3 times)....even though its not "beautiful". I think I would consider it more if I lived in the city and walked everywhere....but I live in a rural area and have to drive most of the time. good luck in your decision!

I've had mine over 6 years now and used it through 2 kids. I think it depends on what you use a stroller for. We go on walks every night and have gravel type streets that are very bumpy. An unbrella stroller does not work well. We also have a farm near by and love that the bug can go off road easily.

For travel and trips to the mall we use a $100 maclaren.

Oh, and LOVED the bassinet feature of the bug. We used that part with both kids without the stroller. It made going to see friends and family much easier. Especially if we were just going for dinner. The baby had a great place to sleep.

With my first child we had a Maclaren stroller that was about $100. It was fine but got a little "squeaky" after so much use. My parents wanted to buy me a really nice stroller for the second. They told me to pick anything I wanted. I looked at the bugaboos and really liked them but then I found the Britax B-Ready. It was far cheaper (not cheap though around $500) and it just fit my needs better. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I never knew how useful a stroller could be! We've used the bassinet daily for her to sleep in and at church, we use the extra seat for our toddler when traveling, and I love that I can switch her facing front or backwards toward me. I say if you know you'll use all the features of an expensive stroller and it isn't a budget crasher for you...go for it. I have seen the Bugaboo's on Craig's List several times in my area so don't rule out looking for one used.

I've purchased 3 Bugaboo strollers, 2 Frogs for my girls and 1 Chameleon as a shower gift for a good friend.

We loved them and for us, they were well worth the coin, however, as a PP stated, they're really best if you do a lot of walking over rough/uneven ground and snow. We bought them because we were living in Manhattan and all we did was walk everywhere. Basically, we looked at the strollers as our car. Looking back, and if we were living in the suburbs, there's no way I would drop that much money on a stroller that I was only really using as a status symbol. It's not easy to open and close, not to manage getting it in and out of the car in two pieces. For ease of use in non-urban environments, a cheap umbrella stroller's the best way to go.

Frankly (and in the spirit of the Budget Board), you'd be better off taking the money and putting it in a 529 plan.

I had to fib to my DH about how much my Maclaren cost. I could've never dropped that much on a Bug. :rolleyes1

Several friends of mine have had one and they've all ended up getting rid of theirs around the time the kids turn 2.5 years old because their head and feet are hanging out the top and bottom. These weren't the "umbrella" bugaboos, but the higher end ones. They tend to switch to Maclaren and Chicco.

My sister had a Quinny and she got rid of hers for the same reason. The seats on these higher end strollers seem kind of small. We aren't in a rural environment, though so we don't have experience with that aspect of these strollers.

I agree-for that enviroment its a good thing:)
For a typical suburban family-who basically uses it occasionally at the Mall-a cheapo one is the way to go
