bug spray in december??

I was trying to find the appropriate forum to post this under -- this was my best guess.

We are leaving Wednesday for the world -- very excited!!!!

I have been looking at different packing lists and was wondering if at the end of December/beginning of January -- would we need bug spray? It looks like it will be in the 80's during the day and 60's in the evening. Just wanted to know if I should pack some -- I was really trying to avoid having a checked bag- so i want to keep within the fluid guidelines for flying.

I always take the individually-wrapped Off Wipes. I was bitten by mosquitoes when we went to GF last December for a late-evening dinner. If you are planning to watch Fantasmic, it's good to have repellant with/on you.

We have never wanted bug spray at WDW.

We have been to WDW well over 50 times, often with extended family, and never bothered with bug spray in any month of the year.

Many times we've commented on how few bug bites we've gotten. We love staying in the parks (MK) until they close. On our worst trip, we came home with a grand total of three bug bites (10 people)!

Disney is very proactive about insect control. They use (or at least have used) all kinds of non-toxic means on insect control out there: ladybugs, probiotics, etc. They used to offer ladybug release activities to kids at several of the deluxe hotels. I don't know if they still do, but it was early in the morning.

Sunscreen, on the other hand, is a good idea especially in Epcot for exposed areas. (face? arms?) It isn't quite as essential (in terms of getting sunburns) at the other parks, but Epcot has little shade.

We have never needed bug spray at Disney (even during spring and summer trips), so I would not bother bringing any in the winter.

We visit family and do other things in FL where you can't walk from the car to the front door without being loaded with mosquito bites, but as soon as we step foot on Disney property we are safe. We noticed the "magical mosquito force field" our first trip and haven't worried about bug spray since.

i have never in my life brought bug spray to Disney world.
and I have never in my life been bitten/stung by anything while at Disney world.
there is absolutely no need for bug spray in my opinion.
Disney manages pests quite well.

We were sitting on the grass in the Rose Garden last night watching Wishes in our shorts. I was thinking that we might get bit by Mosquitos but we didn't.

For a non-WDW trip - I did once find a spray that was both sunscreen and bug spray all-in-one. I'm not positive, but I think the brand was Bullfrog.

Been going for 30 years and never once needed bug spray which is saying something since I am a total bug magnet (and extremely allergic to bites, so much that I once needed surgery to reduce swelling in my left arm after being bit because the swelling cut of blood flow ), but it has never been an issue at disney. I was stung by a sweat bee at flower and garden one year right near my eye, but that was purely a freak thing and not something bug spray would have helped with.

Along with all the pp's, have never even seen bugs except around lights outside. Have been going to MK and staying at FW since they opened and never thought once about bugs or spray - and I'm from south LA.

We were bitten several times by mosquitoes this week. Not enough for bug spray but they were around!

I guess it also depends on where you are at Disney. We played all 3 Disney golf courses and commented about the amount of gnats and bugs we encountered. Not enough to apply bug spray, but they were definitely noticeable.

While waiting in line for Jack Skellington during MVMCP a couple of weeks ago, mosquitoes went to town on me. . It was the first time that happened at WDW. It couldn't hurt to wear something like Off if you will be out at dusk and you react poorly to bites, like I do.

You will not need bug spray for any month that you visit WDW. I have never bought bug spray or used it in my life.

It has been humid right now with standing water, perfect for bugs. I've gotten several bites at Disney. Bring some - just not industrial huge stuff. Disney's good, but there's so much standing water right now, they can't be that good. You would usually get hit around the ankles, so, like I said, not much is needed.

Or bring some Cortizone and resign yourself to treating any bites and not preventing them. You can get a much smaller version of that.

I used to think that Disney World was my "safe space" from my usual role as favourite tasty treat for bugs, but my last 2 trips (May and December this year) have both seen me smothered in bites - generally around my ankles, but my elbow is still healing & I've been home a fortnight. better to be safe than sorry, especially if you are going to be spending any time by water. The Wilderness Lodge beach seemed to be the hot spot in May, I have no idea what to blame for the recent trip but I won't be forgetting my bug spray going forward!!

We've never brought or felt the need to bring bug spray to WDW in all of our visits. We've been there in Feb, and June but most of our trips fall into the horribly humid late summer end of Aug/beginning of Sept. The only time I ever was bitten was quite late at night at the boat dock at POR.

Unless we're planning on spending a lot of time off property somewhere I never feel the need for any bugspray--- one less thing to pack
