Bug free storage in garage possible?

I am downsizing homes (super big time ---from 2,000+ SF to about 1, 000). Is it possible to store some of my things in my new garage and keep bugs out? Boxes/tubs of pictures, knicknacks, possibly clothes, toys, etc.

I was thinking rubbermaid containers and still "bomb" every couple months. Or is bug free storage in the garage just not possible?

Any and all ideas appreciated.

Thank you.

Sure it is -- if you use glass containers.

Seriously, if you can't find big enough pickle jars (or aquariums?!), it will depend a lot on where you live. In the subtropical South it really isn't a good idea, not so much because of bugs but because of mildew, which will be racing with the bugs for first dibs.

In drier, cooler climates it's more possible, but your best bet is vacuum-sealing in heavy plastic and then putting THAT inside a lidded Rubbermaid tub that has bug killer crystals in it.

Don't store photos/slides/tapes outside at all, though. The temperature extremes will adversely affect the emulsion, and they will be ruined.

Thank you. Didn't even think about mold/mildew. May have to see if a relative or friend will let me use their basement for six months or so.
