Buffets

We like Sweet Tomatos and CiCis on Palm Parkway.

Sweet Tomatoes sounds great for me and my younger son, but my eldest won't be happy without a very meat-y meal or at the very least, pizza.

Which buffets would you recommend that have a decent salad bar (for me) but also a good selection of chicken, beef, and/or ham? Up here, we have the Country Buffet (I think is what it is called? Or Old Country? Haven't been there in a while), which is perfect for our family--enough of all the different things we all like to make us all happy. Also very clean. So someplace like that would be great!

CiCi's intrigues me--sounds italian! Is it?

I was to an old country buffet for the first time this weekend. It reminded me of the golden corrals I ate in when in Florida.

We liked Ponderosa when we were there in 2002. We ate several meals there, on I drive by Sand Lake Rd. We'll be staying in Kissimmee this trip. Does anyone know if the Ponderosas in Kissimmee are any good?
The one across from Old Town is good. The one off of 535 is very bad. I went there for breakfast a few weeks ago and actually lost my appetite.

We do Boston Lobster Feast, or we used to on each visit. The last time was in December '05. After 4 visits, we either weren't as thrilled or thought the quality was not as impressive as it used to be. We may have just caught them on a bad day. Still, the lobster itself was fine, it was their Bisque and service that was kind of lacking. As always, could have been the timing. You should make your own judgement.

Here is their website:

Chinese buffets:

1. I-4 to 535 north (northwest) straight through WDW/Goodings intersection, left at next light, go a few carlengths and take a left into their driveway.

2. I-4 to 535 north straight through WDW/Gooding intersection, straight at next light, right half a block later into small shopping plaza.

3. 192 west, go under the new 429 overpass, left into the Howard Johnson motel entrance I think is the 3'rd light past.

Shoney's all American home cooking:

4. I-4 to 535 north, straight through WDW/Goodings intersection, straight at next light, half a block on left.

5. 192 west, half a block past Sherberth Rd. Or you can use Sherberth by following signs to Animal Kingdom and bear left instead of going to its toll plaza, left at next light onto Sherberth. Use left turn break in the median on 192. Almost right next to (east of ) Golden Corral.

Sweet Tomatoes in my area is $7.29 at lunch, $8.99 or so at dinner.
It always has pizza and there are many coupons floating around for
$1.50 off.

Thanks to all of you for the info. We are going in August and staying offsite but I don't want to eat at the Nick hotel the whole time. I went to the sweet Tomatoes web site and it looks great. I even joined the Veg Club for email deals. Thank you all!!

I have always wondered about the Whistle Stop. You see lots of cars there, and I have read positive reviews in the Orlando newspaper about it, but we have never tried it, nor have I ever seen it mentioned on the Dis.

We usually do Boston Lobster Fest once ever trip. Its expensive for a buffet, but cheaper than a Disney buffet.

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the salad bar at Texas De Brazil, but its major bucks. If you aren't on a budget, its worth the money. But be prepared for a sticker shock!

We are the only people I have ever seen underwhelmed by Sweet Tomatoes. It was crowded and hard to get around in when we were there. The dishes weren't refilled and it wasn't a place we would hurry back to.

We have CiCis at home. so we have never been to the ones in Orlando. It has a small salad bar and the pizza isn't bad. We have paid a lot more to much worse pizza.

I've only been to the one in DeLand (the only other one in existance as far as I know), and the food was not great at all--definitely below even a Golden Corral. The trains are cute if that interests you, but I wouldn't recommend it for the culinary experience.

I'll also give a negative review on Whistle Junction. We ate there in May after reading a positive post here on the boards and were quite disappointed. It wasn't awful but we didn't think it was even as good as Golden Corral and it was more expensive too.

FWIW, we don't go to any of the Golden Corrals in the attractions areas. We always take a drive out to the GC on West Colonial. It's got the best vegetable selections of any GC we've been to (and we've been to many all up and down the east coast.) It's also got the most extensive dessert bar:) Most importantly, because it's not in the attractions areas, it's never as crowded as the GCs on 192, 535, I-Drive or Kirkman.

Do they have lobster buffets? What is included and what is the approximate cost per meal?

Thank you

Charleyann

Thanks for the heads up about Whistle Stop, I always wondered, but now I know its something to avoid!!

We did boston lobster feast this past april. They had an early bird special for like 24.99 and we thought the lobster was very good, as was the rest of the food, dessert too. They give you a whole lobster or two any time you want, they were always available. The buffet had crab legs, shrimp all kinds of food. I ate three lobsters (they were small) and felt I got my money's worth. We are going back in October and this is a must do for hubby & I.

I think the best buffet is at Golden Corral & the best location is the one at Lake Buena Vista: 8707 Vineland Ave. In my opinion they have the best selection off good & their prices are very fair.
