Which do you prefer at WDW? I've looked at the menus and the buffets sound terrific and seem to be a great value. For a first trip to WDW with a seven year old boy, what would you recommend. We'll probably one buffet/sit down meal a day and counterservice the rest of the time.

Do you think the buffets offer a better value?

It really depends, the buffets are amazing, and the sit downs are just as wonderful, do a bit of both, just my suggestion, and enjoy them all! :flower1:

That's a tough question for me. I do love buffets b/c of the variety, and the all you care to eat. But with our two youngsters I find that buffets are a pain. Dh and I are constantly up and down, one staying at the table while the other loads up kids plates, then we swap, and it goes on and on.

So, if we don't have the kids then I love buffets. With kids we prefer to have someone bring the food to us.

we love buffets! we also love the "all you care to eat family style meals" as they seem to be the best of both worlds! LOL!

My family prefers buffets to sit-downs for several reasons. One, we are all big eaters, esp. when we are on vacation. Two, they are less expensive than sit-downs, particularly because of reason number one. Three, most kids menus are burgers or fried foods, no fruit or veggies. At least on the buffets they are not eating french fries as their only vegetable for the week.

As an alternative to the buffets, there are the sit-down pre-plated meals such as those at Liberty Tree Tavern, Askerhus, and Garden Grill.

LoriK, your observation about the Kid's Menu is a major reason why I am leaning toward the buffet option for most of our meals. The Kid's menu seems to consist mainly of mac and cheese, PBJ, chicken fingers and burgers...all with fries! My son isn't really fond of meat and won't eat PBJs.

The Restaurant Akershus has me perplexed. It it a buffet WITH a made to order meal included in the single price?

DITTO DITTO DITTO! same reasons for our family! the quantity and variety, w/the availability of the "standard kid fare" when necessary! my kids both love fruit and it's hard to find in a regular kid meal so by the time we pay for the extra fruit cup or platter (which are always expensive imo!), we may as well have gone to a buffet!
