QEW to Fort Erie also has been closed !! :guilty:
Keeping my fingers crossed for all those Canadian Dis Flying out of Buffalo this weekend

We are flying out on the 25th - hope weather cooperates!

I know you risk bad weather in Dec, Jan and Feb but Oct! Go figure. Good luck to anyone travelling this weekend.

It said on the news out here they got 60cm...holy guacomole! My kids can hardly wait for tobboganning season...me well that's another story!

We tried to get to Lancaster PA today, we heard this am that Fort Erie got snow so we went the Lewiston bridge and then hooked up with the 104 E to the 93.. well.... It is SO BAD, we left before sunrise and the snow was so heavy and thick the power was out on the roads so no streetlights and you only saw the downed trees when they were about 40 feet ahead of you blocking the road.
We almost got to Bativa and the road was blocked off by a firetruck, there were downed lines on the road so we had to turn around. We asked him where the detour was and he said go back the way you came and go home lol All the thruways were closed and it was really bad!
We decided to take his advice and head home, just not worth it the scariest part was when the snow feel off the lines and I thought a power line was falling ahead of us. They have a state of emergancy now and 2.5 feet of snow!

I don't want to go through that again and YES I am still flying from Buffalo in 53 days!

Oh boy! We fly out of Buffalo on the 26th but are heading over to a hotel for park 'n fly the day before.......I really never expected this white stuff so soon in the year! :sad2:

they are still in the state of emergency, I hope they doing ok there.. the news said that they are going to run of water by noon Sat. if the power does not get back on!
I hope they are staying warm somehow. It really is scary there, having seen it makes me feel so back for them!

We are supposed to fly out tomorrow night!!

Actually, I have some friends that were booked to fly out today(fri) on Southwest, the flight was cancelled when they got there this afternoon. So they tried to get a hotel but there was nothing available anywhere, so they came back home. They were told to try and fly stand-by tomorrow morning starting at 6:30 and that they couldn't be rescheduled until Sunday morning for a flight if they couldn't find room on stand-by.

They came home with their daughter crying and broken hearted. They ended up finding a flight on JetBlue tomorrow morning on Jet Blue for 119.00 each which isn't great but worth it to them to not miss two days of their vacation.

When they called WDW, disney offered to extend the vacation by a day for them, they aren't able to do it....not sure if WDW will do anything else for them. They just want to get there and start their vacation and aren't going to worry about anything else.

I hope your friends fly out this morning. The tv news from Buffalo still shows some pretty dire conditions there.

I think this stuff will melt soon though...just not soon enough for our neighbours to the south and that still doesn't help fix the power lines. :(

Great news!!!! A bit of pixie dust helps for this Mickey Mouse weather! :yay: :yay:  :cheer2: :yay:

I heard on the radio that this was the earliest they had ever had this amount of snow so it really was a complete fluke. I think everyone else flying in Oct can rest easy.

It doesn't change my view of flying out of BUF. A major snowstorm like that is once in a decade. Even if they airport is closed once or twice a winter your odds are still pretty slim.

Also if Pearson is closed they have many more flights, hence an even bigger backlog than BUF would have to recover from.

Here is a story for you.

DH was to leave at 6am on Friday morning for his annual guys trip to go to Las Vegas via Atlanta on Air Tran. He has a pile of points on AT, so he booked it that way.

He was set to leave for the BUF airport at 3am Friday AM.

At 8pm on Thursday night his work called and wanted him in Edmonton on Tuesday, so they'd pay for him to fly Air Canada direct from Toronto so he could go from Vegas to Edmonton.

We called Air Tran Thursday night and they reinstated his points and cancelled his flight.

He left Friday morning on AC no problem

I can just imagine the look on his face when I told him of how bad the weather was in Buffalo on Friday, and there would have been no way he would have made it to Vegas at all!

Huge Whew!!

I heard that too, when we were down there we had the Buffalo radio on, they said it was the worse than the storm of '77.. so once in 29 years is not bad odds.. but it was still really bad and my heart goes out to those people who live there who may not have heat or hydro until the end of the week.

yesterday morning on the buffalo news they had lifted the state of emergency for Cheektowaga ( which is where the airport and Walden is)
But 340,000 people in Western NY still without power.

Well we made it out...only 15 mins late!! Already home. It appeared there were still some power outages in the area.
