I'm moving into my new house this weekend (along with the hurricane:rotfl2:) The windows are relatively new but a few are very very dirty with a sticky film like thing on the windows. It is not a sticker, just dirty or from cigarette smoke :headache:

I've tried windex, I've tried dawn dish soap with the scrubby part of the sponge and I've tried Clorox wipes with the scrubby thing. The windows will appear to be clean but as you dry then the sticky film re=appears.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

I was going to suggest vinegar, too. Also, I wash and dry them with newspapers.

When we moved into the building I work at, it hadn't been occupied in 3 years and the windows were black. I started on the front door with windex, wouldn't touch it. I hired a cleaning lady and she used a dollar store aerosol can- worked great! Since then I'm a vinegar fan as well.

I clean houses for a local builder and I have found that the glass cleaner found in the automotive section or the new Pledge Multi Surface clean in the blue spray can works the best and does not leave any streaks. Best of luck!!:wizard:

Thanks. I was thinking vinegar, but since all else failed I thought so would vinegar. When I head out again to get more supplies I'll pick up the Pledge also. Thanks

Put approx 2 gallons of water in a bucket and add 1 large onion that you have quatered. Let the onion sit in the water for a little while and then wash the windows with the water. Dry with something that it clean and lint free.

You can also try pure white vinegar and newspaper.

I also agree with the automotive glass cleaner...it has a high amount of amonia. We use that on our patio door....it always seems to be super dirty.
