Budget laser printer?

My HP all-in-one inkjet seems to be hovering on its last legs (cannot seem to recognize the ink cartridges in there, despite that they're only a few months old and haven't run out of ink!)

I'm tired with ink cartridges (and their prices) and want to go back to a laser printer.

Any good budget one (under $100) or between $100-150?

I got a basic black and white HP in 04. It was around $100 and I didn't run out of ink until 3 years later. It's awesome. We upgraded though to another HP black and white laser with fax/scanner/copier etc. My original one was a 1100 series I think and I see them on Amazon for $130 with free shipping.

I had an HP 1100Ase. I would still be actively using it if they had a Windows 7 driver for it. As it is it is connected to an old Windows XP machine. I had the roller replaced once. The repairman said HP are repairable while many other brands are not.

I have an HP color inkjet all-in-one. OP, have you tried cleaning it? I think there are replaceable parts in it in addition to the ink cartridges, but the name escapes me at the moment. Heads, maybe? If I had done all the self-maintenance I could do, I would take mine back to the office machine shop where I've had my other HP printers serviced. They are built to last.

My brother has a business that sells the laser cartridges and repairs the printers. He recommends all of the HP printers in the $250 to $350 price range for home use. He feels that the ones that are less exepensive are really cheaper and won't last as long. He pointed me towards a $300 printer last year when I was looking.
