Anyone know of any "nice" budget hotels in NYC. I need one for one or two nights. Ive noticed a couple for about $80 but I am worried that "you get what you pay for". These are mostly shared bathroom hotels which I guess I might be ok with depending on how the room is.

I'd be very suspicious of anything for that price in NYC. MUST You be IN the city? Secaucus, NJ is easily accessible and has a nice Hampton Inn.

I haven't stayed in a shared bathroom hotel since I was in college...and certainly wouldn't do it in a major city. I think you'd be getting what you pay for.

It's right outside the Lincoln Tunnel...without traffic it's 5 minutes! THere are buses that go into Port Authority.

We stayed at one in Times Square for around $70 a night. Yes, you get what you pay for, but for the convenience of our location, it wasn't so bad.

Another vote here for staying outside the city. We've stayed in Secaucus a few times. We've also stayed twice at the Fairfield Inn in East Rutherford by the Meadowlands. My Mom stayed at the Days Inn just before the Lincoln Tunnel a year ago and said that was fine. Getting into the city is easy from any of those places - just shoot in to the tunnel on route 3 and either park at the Port Authority or drive to your destination. You can also take a bus into town. There is also a nice Sheraton in Weehawkin but I don't think you can get it for $80.

The Comfort Inn Midtown has rooms that do not share a bath. Granted it is a TEENY TINY room with 1 queen bed and the classic tiny barred window view of a brick wall but you cant beat the location! With my AAA discount last December I spent about $89 a nite. The hotel is on 46th Street just around the corner from Times Square.

If I stay in NJ is there any perticulat hotel close to the feery? Anyone now how much the ferry cost?

The Ferry is $10 round trip last time I was on it.

See if you can get deals at hotels in Jersey City by the PATH train (not the journal square station). Courtyard Marriott, Doubletree Suites and Hyatt Regency.

I posted this on another thread about staying ouside of NYC:

Yeah Secaucus would be a good pick....nice hotels, shopping, and a little known fact is that Secaucus was the site of one of the very first DIS meets...right Dan?

You can take a bus, or now even a train (new station) right into NYC...
