I was just wondering where are some good places to look for fashionable, yet budget friendly homecoming dresses? I am looking to spend under $60, but would like to get the most bang for my buck. I was thinking of Nordstrom Rack, but I know that can be hit or miss. Where else can I find something trendy and dressy but in my price range (hopefully, higher-end or higher-end looking, but marked-down). I am sure there will be no sales this time of the year. Ha!

If youare looking to spend $60 and get a high end semi-formal dress essentially you are going to have to get really lucky with a sale rack somewhere or find a good consignment shop. Be prepared to spend lots of time looking to find something you like in your size.

My DD has done great at Macy's. Her dress for this year is covered in sequins and was $60 full price!

Heck, there is so little material for a size small, that is even outrageous! :lmao:

We also got a great dress one year at Forever 21! $25 and she wore it twice!

We've found dresses at Lohmanns and Ross that were fancy cocktail type dresses for $25-$60.

It takes some time to search through the racks but we've had luck everytime we've searched.

I would suggest Macy's. We were there 2 days ago and they had a really great selection of formals in the juniors dept.. Very reasonable prices and many had a designer "look" to them.

My daughters have been looking at some at JC Penney and Sears that were $50 or under. Very stylish too!

We've always had luck at Forever21 or JCPenney.

Remember it is most likely a one time wear thing. I've seen an awful lot of them at garage sales lately. HTH

If you're not set on new, you could try Plato's Closet - it's a resale shop that specifically targets trendy and designer fashion for teens. Your money would probably get a much nicer dress there!

Another option would be Goodwill or another thrift store. I've gotten some great formal gowns at Goodwill for under $10. With alterations and cleaning, I spent about $60 total for a beautiful gown that was about $200 new! :cool1:

Finally, check the sale/clearance rack at the local bridal salons and boutiques. I once found 2 beautiful formals for $10 each at a bridal store.

Macy's! We went there last year and they had a huge selection and they weren't cheapie looking. There was also a $10 coupon in the paper so it was around $50. Of course they will only wear them once, so check a thrift store if you have one near because I'm sure most of the girls only want to wear their dresses once.

Deb has some really cute dresses on the clearance rack and most were under $50. You could also look on Craigslist. I've sold some special occassion dresses on there and had good luck :)

Is there a Dillards near you? Styles and sizes can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, but if you time their sales right, the prices can be amazing.

DD lucked out and found a $25 formal there once. No, it was not ugly, quite the opposite as a matter of fact. ;)

Good Luck with your search. You should post pictures once you find the perfect dress.

Homecoming dresses in our area are not "formal, long gowns" those are for the prom. Dresses are short and most can be found in your price range. I agree with JC Penney and Macy's usually have nice dresses and good prices. Last year we went to Macy's and they didn't have the size my DD needed, so we ordered it online. Also have your DD check with her friends, maybe they have something she could wear, or a dress from an older sister - my oldest DD has lent dresses to my younger DD's friends and no one is the wiser ;)

Don't break the bank on a one time dress!!

Most of my homecoming dresses came from DEB. They have decent prices, and I loved all of the dresses I tried on. Macy's also has some pretty dresses, as does JCPenney.
Like others were saying, I only wore most of my dresses once. I have worn some for costumes, and I also lend them to my younger sisters friends and our family.

I will second the "Macy's" suggestions from previous posters.

The one time DD paid full price for a formal dress - it was at Macy's. (about $65 or so). Last years homecoming dress was on clearance for about $28 or $20.

Another place DD got a great homecoming dress was at Ross's. She was visiting an aunt and uncle in Florida - so I'm not familiar with the store at all. That was for her soph year, and her jewelry (at $18) cost almost as much as the dress.

DD's "turn-about dance" dresses have been betweeb $19 and $36 - so no issues about that either. (both those were from Boston Store - one on Black Friday, and the other just on a good -old clearance).

I like shopping with DD for dresses - so bring on the homecoming shopping!!! She'll be a senior this year, so I'm not sure how many more opps we will have to do this.

do you have an outlet mall near you? if so hit up BCBG. stock and prices vary but they often have clearance dresses for under $50. i got two for $40 about 3 years ago when i had a wedding. got lots of compliments on the one i wore and the other is still NWT and i will wear to a wedding this january. i had not been there in ages and was there last week looking for shoes to go with another dress i own. didn't get shoes but i got a cute hot pink silk cocktail dress for only $25 to go with me to vegas.:cool1:

also if you have the time goodwill has a website now, the only thing is you do not know the conidtion of the item until you get it and shipping costs can cost as much as the item.

right now the J.C. Penney and Ross stores have their Prom/fancy dresses on clearance. They are mostly the short, fun bubbly type dresses. Just got my DD a really cute dress for homecoming for 10.00!

Ask around to friends and family. Someone may have a dress you could borrow, or an old bridemaid dress you could just alter. I have a closet full of bridesmaid dresses, some are pretty but will never be worn again. Also craigslist, but make sure you meet in a safe public place and have a parent with you.

Marshalls or TJ Maxx can be hit or miss but you can find some great dresses there for very reasonable prices. My daughter is a junior and last year was rough with all of the sweet 16s that she needed formal dresses for. We bought a lot at Tj's/Marshalls and Macy's as well.

Dd gets here at Deb too, big selection and good prices. The most expensive one she got was $65. Her friend even got her prom dress there last spring and when she spent $100 on that dress she got to pick another dress for free so she already got this years homecoming dress!
