Fake palmiers [Google "palmiers pastry" images] are pretty and about $1 if you use a can of store brand crescent roll dough, assuming you have 2 Tbsp of any jam (marmalade is wonderful!) and 1 Tbsp sugar on hand.
Sprinkle 1 T sugar over parchment and unroll the crescent roll dough onto the parchment. Make 4 rectangles by pinching the 8 serrated triangles together.
Coat each rectangle with a thin layer of jam. Roll each short side halfway in toward the middle until the two short sides touch in the middle.
Chill for a few minutes, then cut each log into 6 pieces with dental floss and lay flat on the parchment.
Cook according to package directions and pull them out when they're lightly brown.
$1 for 24 palmiers*. 5 minutes for prep; start to finish 30 min. No cleanup!
*You can make more, but smaller (and cuter!) pastries if you roll the long sides together instead of the short; just watch them as they're baking since they're tiny.
