It's that time of year again...

I have to find something to wear to DFi's company Christmas party. I'm looking for a cute, black, dress. Plus size that isn't tent looking, without spending $$$! So, tell me your favorite places to shop!

The party is at the Dover Downs Hotel and it's pretty nice. So I'm looking for something nicer than church, but not too dressy, somewhere around cocktail.

Help!

I'd check out goodwill first, someone may have a cast off. Fancy dresses here are $4.99. You may find nothing, but you may hit the jackpot.

I usually have luck at Macys or Jcpenneys:goodvibes

I bought all my cruise cocktail dresses at Ross for $25 or less. In fact I have WAY too many cocktail dresses because they were $25 or less lol.

Honestly, an upscale re-sale shop, if you have any near you. A few years ago, 2 of my brothers got married in the same year, so I had to have 2 different dresses. Got one at a resale shop - it was silk too!

IF you have Kohl's near you, I have a great jersey knit black dress that I got there for 25.00. It's super comfy, and each time I wear it, I get tons of compliments. It's definitely something you could wear more than once. I wore it on our last cruise. The brand was Axcess.

I bought my last cocktail dress at Ross for $15.

Ross, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls are my go-to spots for semi formal and formal gowns.

Wow...I knew I could count on you guys! I have a lot of places to start looking! Thanks!

I second this. I ALWAYS shop Ross first (we have at least 5 stores within 20 miles of my house!) before I go anywhere else. The last 4 cruises I have found my dress as well as my girls' dresses there for under $25 each (the girls' are usually under $10) for very nice formal/semi formal gowns.

I agree TJMaxx, Ross and Marshalls are great. I think dillards is having a big sale now too so maybe try there.

Great ideas:idea: I was going to suggest an hour on the computer and going to many sites to shop online. Believe it or not, Kmart Jaqueline Smith's line has plus sizes and very classic lines; Walmart has some finds; Sears; with the economy being down, most offer free shipping to your local store. Buy a few and ship back the ones you don't want. Velvet is very big this season--maybe a plain black skirt you already have with a jazzy velvet top and neat rhinestone jewelry:woohoo: Resale shops are wonderful for unique jewelry pieces. Have Fun at the party:banana:

My DD went to a winter dance last year and we got her dress at Fashion Bug. It is beautiful - fits her perfectly. Dressier than church - more evening wear. I think it was around $50 more than I would have liked but we had such a hard time finding anything for her.

I've bought all my black cocktail dresses at Dillards and JCPenney. They are usually having a great sale and you can look online to see what JCP has to offer. They have a black dress section!:thumbsup2

Never heard of Ross. Think I'll check to see if I can shop online with them.

Don't forget Boscov's!
They have some nice semi-formal dresses, even saw some separate skirts and satin shirt-jackets.

I found a great clearance rack at a Dress Barn Outlet store last weekend. I was really surprised. Things were 60% off already reasonable prices. Bought two outfits for my cruise and 2 pair of great looking/ fitting jeans and only spent $112!

The Macy's plus size section has some wonderful stuff but you have to really search. They were having a sale in July, I bought 5 cocktail dresses for under $130.
