Budget Christmas Presents

I'm surprised at the number of people posting that buy for coworkers.:confused3
I have no desire to buy for coworkers on top of all my family members. Is this mandated or you just choose to do it?

We have played this gift swap game thingy at our Christmas lunch where everyone brings a unisex $10 gift to participate. That is the onlyt hing we do.

We usually give each other small gifts in my department, but not everyone does, which is fine. Some years I bake cookies and put together a small tin of cookies for each person, but I didn't have times this year. I'd rather have a nice soap to give than nothing at all. I bought 12 foaming soaps at BBW in some yummy and other winter scents for $21 and change which included tax. The gifts are inexpensive and I can show my appreciation without breaking the bank.

DS mentioned needing a gun rack for his airsoft guns over the summer. They just lean up against a wall in his room, and he was afraid they would get damaged. I figured dad could build it and I could finish it.
But, in October, I found a rack at Goodwill for $5. It has hideous 80s with medallions and a lion's head drawer pull. But, it had room for four guns and a drawer for extra supplies at the base. (Lumber would have cost more than that.) I bought it, removed the medallions, and refinished it with paint I had on hand. I spent $1.50 for a new knob for the drawer and $.50 for felt to line the hooks and prevent damage to the guns, so $7 total.

DD is a reader and has more books than shelves in her room. She is a Pinterest-junkie and showed me some pictures of more eclectic wall mount book shelves (cubes stacked and scattered over the wall) last year. We've looked at shelves, but never got around to buying anything.
I went to a flea market-type store and found seven crates for about $30. I used paint and scrapbooking paper I had on hand, to tie them all together and coordinate them to her room. What I really love about the crates, is how shallow they are. She has the perfect wall for these shallow shelves, and they are just the right size for her books and smaller nicknacks/frames.

These are the gifts I'm most excited about since the kids have long since forgotten asking, they are useful, and I know they are going to love them. :yay:
