Budget buster...DH needs a new suit.

Pulled out the interview suit for DH (he is a teacher and got laid off). Moths got it and its got holes. It was a light brown color and looked really good on him.

I think it came from Kohls. Is that a good place to go back, or is there a better place to buy a suit for a good price?

He wore his old grey suit to an interview last week. The pants don't match as well and it really just doesn't look as well on him...and I won't let him wear his "funeral suit" LOL

We buy our husband's suits at Kohl's - hubby is a banker, so he wears suits everyday.

We are Canadian, and good quality suits are very expensive here ($400-$600 each), but at Kohl's, we can get those same suits on sale for approx. $150 - $175.00. And, we always have Kohl's coupons and Cash, so their suits are incredible deals for us! So, you could get a wool, Ralph Lauren suit for example, for approx $100-$125 at Kohl's, depending upon what type of coupons, etc. you have.

You might want to check out the Salvation Army or Goodwill. You never know what you might find (my daughter found a brand new pair of Ann Taylor shorts with the tags still on them).

Also, you can get some good deals on ebay as well if you don't have to have it immediately.

How about K & G? When my DH graduated college (many moons ago) he got a pair of suits for $150. I don't know if they still have deals that good, but if you have one close by, it's worth a look.

You could try Joseph A. Banks if there is a store near you. Their sales are very good--we got a very good price on a dinner jacket at the store in Ft. Lauderdale.

Good point. The last time I looked for a suit I used froogle.com, and Jos. A. Banks was one of the ones that came up with some great deals. Give froogle a try!

I had to buy one for oldest DS at 15 for a semi-formal dance at school (he's definitely still growing so no way was I going expensive) and ended up at TJ Maxx. DH has gotten some very nice suits at J.C. Penney for a reasonable price.

But if you have a TJ Maxx/Marshall's near you definitely check them as they have some very expensive suit jackets/dress pants for a very good price as they definitely will beat the competition. You never know what they are going to have so it's hit or miss, but at my local store last week they had a Ralph Lauren suit jacket (in brown no less ) for $80 and they had some black dress pants that would have coordinated really well (also Ralph Lauren) for $20. So for $100 (possibly less even) you can get what otherwise would be a very high end suit.

DH is an electrical engineer. When he got laid off, he dropped one thousand bucks at Mens' Wearhouse. Could have killed him!! He never dresses up, and engineers aren't really known for their fashion sense!! He works in manufacturing, so wears sneakers, khakis, and oxford shirts.

Anyway, he could have gotten in and out for a decent price, so I do recommend them. Could your dh get by with a blazer, dress shirt and slacks? Sorry it just kills me to spend on dress clothes. Even church has gone casual, so it's hard to justify.

Ok, maybe this is me being ignorant of the world, but why won't you let him wear his "funeral" suit? I assume this is his black suit? I'm not trying to criticize. I'm just trying to understand. My hubby never wears a suit except for weddings or funerals. He actually doesn't own a suit anymore as he "outgrew" his some years back; he has one jacket (my mom calls it a sport coat) -black with a very fine gray stripe- and a pair of black pants. He wears this combo for any occasion where a shirt and tie just aren't dressy enough.

Syms is the best spot if you have one nearby. Have it properly fitted by a tailor afterward; it makes a HUGE difference. The extra $75 or so it will cost will be well worth it.

If he is also interviewing for business positions, then no brown and no muted glen plaids. Stick to navy or charcoal, either plain or a very subtle pinstripe.
Also, no blends ... they pill.

My DH doesn't wear suits. However, I would second trying TJ Maxx or Marshall's. Also, do you have a Savers near you. They have a lot of men's clothing and you can find new or like new items.

I actually missed this part - not sure why either?

As I said, my hubby has many suits, as he wears them everyday. He has multiple colours, and there is no funeral suit, as they are all excellent quality, so he has several black or navy blue, that he has worn to funerals.

Not sure what the deal is, but perhaps the suit is too dark or formal looking, so the OP wants a different type of suit? If it's just because it's black, then I'm not sure what the deal is, as in my husband's corporate world, black is the suit of choice.

I got my hubby a beautiful suit at the Hugo Boss outlet, here in Germany. They even did the tailoring free of charge. We were able to take the tax off of it, and it came out to be about 400$, now that could be viewed as expensive but the retail price of the suit was 1,100 Euros. It is an investment in his professional wardrobe, and he looks great in it. I also got him 3 ties at Versace, on sale and they cost less than 50$ each. When he got out of the military and started looking for a job, he needed a good suit. He had one and some ties, but I told him the suit looked cheap, it was and the ties looked like 10$ ties, they were. Off to the goodwill all that crap went. I would try some of the higher end outlet stores and see what you can find. When my CEO sister is visiting she goes crazy in the Armani outlet, and she bought 5 suits with blouses and spent less than a grand. She could not even buy one Armani suit in the states for that. Good luck on the job hunt!

My brother buys his suits in mens warehouse and in macys-he is a suit nut, has a closet full! He has two tuxedos too but not sure where he bought those.

My husband has had great luck with his Brooks Brother's suits. We got them at the outlet and they had a sale of 2 for $500. Plus if you are a AAA member, they gave an addition 10% off. These suits will last years. He has a Jos. A Bank suit and it's thin and won't last nearly as long yet he paid about the same amount. Go for good quality as long as he isn't expanding and will outgrow it.
