Budget Beach Trip -- Possible?

Have you considered going with another family and renting a house?

My family has a beach house in the pan-handle of Florida that we use as a rental property. Our place sleeps 9-12 comfortably.

Try this website: www.vrbo.com
It's a site where property owners can list their properties instead of through a rental agent (my family does both and our vrbo# is 51106).

I'm from Southwest PA as well (Bethel Park).

It used to exist and is still called "Rehoboth Beach" but I have been priced out of vacations there for several years (after spending the first 42 years of my life vacationing there!). I would love to hear what suggestions other folks have, since I miss swimming in warm water (New England water never gets truly warm!)

I live about 35 minutes from Rehoboth. :-) We like to go when the tourists leave. LOL Seriously though, it's a great family vacation spot. You are less than an hour from Ocean City, MD as well. There are several beaches in the area...Lewes, which is on the bay with smaller waves, and the Cape May-Lewes Ferry terminal is there, a nice day trip. Dewey, but that's more of a college town, Bethany Beach is down the way a bit. There are a lot of alternatives in a pretty small area to be honest. I don't know about costs of hotels, houses, condos, etc because we just don't need them. LOL But we love going down there. In Rehoboth there is Funland, which the kids will really love. It's geared toward the younger set for the most part and the ride tickets are pretty cheap if you ask me too. My son really likes going down to ride the rides and play a couple of games. Then there is Grotto's Pizza...my FAVORITE part of the beach. LOL My ob/gyn is in Lewes and since I'm pregnant, I've been going down a lot lately. Taht means I have the chance to stop and get pizza a lot too...hehe. Oh, and the outlets are down there too. And Royal Treat for ice cream. And Dolle's for some taffy or caramel corn. I'm getting hungry now. LOL

My mom lives in Va Beach -- sorry but - I don't take my family here -- we go to the Outer Banks -- the farther down you go the cheaper the rentals. Last year we rented a 3 Bdr 2 ba house in Waves - 3rd lot from the ocean -- could walk from ocean to sound and the house was for $895 the last week of June (peak season). Not alot of stuff to do on this part of Hatteras but go to the beach -- our cheapest vacation yet and we all had a great time.

If you wait until the last minute you can get great deals from the bigger realty companies. If you are anal like me and have to plan in advance-- try Cape Escape Realty (they take cash only however) - -this is who we rented from last year and every thing went great.

As one Western PA'er to another I would really recommend going to the Outer Banks. The drive is not bad (about 1.5 - 2hrs more than VA beach) We always do it in one day (typically about 10 hrs with one stop for lunch). A week there in an Oceanside (not Oceanfront) house with private pool runs us about $1,500 (including house, food and gas) The week you are planning on does start to run a little higher in rates but not as high as July or August would be. We like more quiet laid back areas so we tend to stay in Duck or Corolla.

Our favorite rental agency is www.villagerealtyobx.com although we have rented from Stan White and Sun without any problems.

You could always do a couple days in Erie although I don't think that is quite what you are looking for ;)

I hope you have a great vacation no matter where you go :sunny:
