Buc-Ees question from a Brit!

I know this is a zombie thread, but a general question on prepaying for gas anywhere.

I've never prepaid, always use CC at the pump. But, if you prepay and go in to the store and think $50 will do it. You go back to the car and you can only get, let's say, $42 in. Do you have to go back to the store to get an $8 refund?
If you pay in cash, yes. We'll, you could just drive away and leave the money.

We have 1 so far in KY about an hour away and stop on road trips. I will say if you're ever driving I-75 through KY Google Kentucky disco bathrooms, not a Buc-ee's but a fun quick stop for fuel.
There's two in Kentucky. One at the 83mm on I75, one at the 32(?)mm on I65. Pretty sure I read they're going to build a 3rd somewhere near Ft Campbell.

DH has been to a Buccees before, I have not. He seems to have an obsession with it.

He has been to one, and brought back a bunch of stuff. That brisket IS really good I must admit. We now have Buccees tshirts, stickers, magnets etc. I think the logo is really cute. For the longest time before I knew what was, I thought it was something from the toothpaste commercial from Grease :rotfl2:

We just got our first Buc-cee’s in Colorado and for the people in-the-know, they lost their minds. I was excited to visit one for the first time because I’ve heard about them for years. I am now the proud owner of Buc-cee’s paper plates and a bucket hat. My son and his friends stayed up all night and then drove to the opening day at about 3am, they wanted to be first inside. They bought the Buc-cee’s onesies and got their picture taken with the CEO. It is a cool place, for essentially a rest stop.

Do they have cool Halloween or Christmas merch? Should I go back this time of year?

A town about 45 minutes from me is having one built for 2027 I think.

We have Wawa which was a hit when it first came. Where I used to live had Sheetz which I like better then Wawa
My hope is that one day, Sheetz will come down to Fl to at least challenge WAWA. I don't see Buc-ee's as a true competitor in that space.

We wind up at Buc-ee's a lot, but we're also Texas residents. Between full sized and minis, I think we've been to Buc-ee's at least 20x in the last year. I even watched the April solar eclipse from the parking lot of the Buc-ee's in Ennis, TX. Come to think of it, we stopped at the Ennis one last Friday and the Denton one the following Sunday. We even visited the Colorado one over the summer because we were staying/playing a few minutes away. The Colorado one felt different. Maybe it's because it didn't have Coke products. We even saw the signs for the one coming to Arizona.

I really like Buc-ee's. Their gas is usually cheaper, DH has a Buc-ee's credit card so he gets an additional discount, the bathrooms are usually immaculate, the service is incredible, they pay their employees really well, they usually have Buc-ee roaming around and taking pics (got a few with him this last Sunday), there's some really fun merch and treats if you have time to browse (we're often rushing), and there's usually enough food options that there's something for everyone. What's been bugging me of late is the smell. It's not technically a bad smell, but whenever you enter Buc-ee's, there's that aroma of smoked meats mixed with sweets. Lately, it's been messing with my senses, to the point that I don't find anything appealing when we go in. I usually settled for some cheese cubes or hard boiled eggs when this happens, but it's keeping me from buying a bunch of fudge and pralines. 🤣

ooh, had no idea they were building one in Ocala. That’ll be nice . We stop on almost every trip to/from Disney at the 2 in GA. They're always crazy busy. But bathrooms are very well managed,. Gas is cheap. Easy to get drinks, icees, sometimes food. Their sandwich prices have gone up a lot the last few years . Used to be 5.99 for brisket sandwich, now I think over 8.00 or near that. Staff are always nice , and checkout is easy . The one in north GA is kind of pain to get in and out of sometimes. North AL has a really nice one too. We’re getting one not too far from us in TN. Happy it’ll be an option for traveling .

The food at Sheetz is awful (IMO) but I do feel like Wawa is slipping quality wise. I was just in southern NJ visiting a friend so I got a hoagie at Wawa and it wasn't nearly as good as it was years ago. Also didn't know they do pizza now.
