Buc-Ees question from a Brit!

“Had” to stop by the new one in GA on the way home from WDW over the summer.

At the time, I was like...."I just made it through WDW for two weeks in a pandemic and I'm going to catch COVID in a darn gas station on the way home." :crowded::crowded::crowded:

It was.... an experience. It really is quite fascinating. I'm used to giant QTs, Racetracs, etc - but Buc-ee's is in a total league of its own.

I love buc-ees when I am driving to Dallas, Austin or San Antonio. Clean bathrooms, food, snacks, drinks, interesting things to buy. A great place to stretch your legs on a road trip and I feel perfectly safe getting gas or food, day or night. They built one in my town about 8 miles from my house. I have never been and have no desire to ever go. It is a road trip store. Beaver nuggets showed only be eaten while traveling.

I'm obsessed with Buc-ees too! I moved to TX about a year and a half ago and make it a point to go to Buc-ees all the time. Sometimes for gas, sometimes for a bathroom break, and most of all to shop! My family can't believe the cute clothes I get there for the kids and for myself. Whenever we pass one my 3 year old yells "let's go to Buc-ees!!". I make it a point to bring people there when they come visit- it's like a destination! I mean you can literally buy anything there- bbq smokers, kayaks, fishing and tubing gear, clothes, all kinds of foods and drinks, and yes the bathrooms are the best going. And the staff is always wonderful. I tell my husband I want to quit my job and work there 😂.

If I get gas I'll use a far away pump like #222 or something but I do move my car afterwards- I don't want to be rushed while shopping!

I've never been to or seen one. We are starting to get Casey's General stores popping up here in ohio. Not nearly as big but bigger than we're used to

I have a friend who works at our local one. Very strict employment rules. No checking your phone. No warning, you get caught you’re gone. Everything on your uniform has to be neatly pressed. They also “listen” to the cashiers. Recording devices by the registers. Very low threshold for screwing up.
Not saying these are bad things necessarily but for some people the rules are difficult to adhere to.

One just opened on Monday a few miles from me. It's just south of Jacksonville on I95 for anyone taking that route to Disney :) There's also one that looks very close to opening closer to Daytona. I passed it this weekend, but don't remember exactly where it was.

It's on LPGA. Looks to be near opening

We love Buc-ees. Before we moved to TX we always went to one when we vistited. My 12 yo loves to go because icees are only 99 cents. He thinks that is the bomb. I have also gotten some really nice gifts at Buc-ees. My BFF says she does most of her gift shopping there. Their BBQ sandwich is pretty good too.

I better keep my current job- I'd definitely get fired with all those rules 😬😊

We just experienced this yesterday. I was pulling my travel trailer and stopped at the Kodak TN store for gas. I pulled in behind a car at the pump, with the pump to the left and a tour bus on my right. When I was done, I noticed the car in front was sitting there unattended with the gas nozzle in the car's gas tank. I couldn't back the trailer out into traffic, so I was stuck. The bus driver was no where to be found either. I went inside and told the first employee I saw, who said, "I'll see what I can do." I thanked her and went back to the truck. After a few minutes, my wife went inside and finally talked to a manager, who said they couldn't ask the driver of the car to move. I kept seeing people exit the store with big bags of Beaver Nuggets and walk to their cars parked next to gas pumps. So apparently this is a common practice. It doesn't help that there has practically no parking in the parking lot. After about 20 minutes, the bus driver finally showed up and moved, and I was able to get around the car. Took us 30 more minutes to get back to the highway. I hope my Beaver Nuggets don't run out any time soon, as I really don't want to go back.

I had the experience to stop at one in Pell, Alabama last week. It was my first time in one and it really seemed like the old truck stops but without the trucks. I've only seen one thing that is comparable and that is the I-80 truck stop in IA. I did pick up some jerky for a friend and some yogurt covered pretzels for myself. I don't think I'd stop all the time but once on a road trip I could see myself stopping there.

Two words: beef brisket.

There is a new Buc-ee's being built in Ocala on I-75. They are creating a whole new interchange to accommodate this build. This will be immensely popular for folks visiting the Orlando region not using I-95.

"Another Florida location — set to be larger than the current "world's largest Buc-ee's"— is scheduled to open in Ocala in 2025."

We have 1 so far in KY about an hour away and stop on road trips. I will say if you're ever driving I-75 through KY Google Kentucky disco bathrooms, not a Buc-ee's but a fun quick stop for fuel.

I'm probably in the minority but yuck, I didn't care for it at all when we stopped.
It was like Walmart & the Pioneer Woman had a baby, and that baby grew up to sell pithy wooden kitchen signs and blue soda and dog toys.
I've never been to one, but this cracks me up. So far nothing I've heard has made me feel like I'm missing out, but they have an awful lot of people who seem to love them. I just can't do the math to get excited by the idea of massive gas station and convenience store, but then I'm not a mathematician.

A town about 45 minutes from me is having one built for 2027 I think.

We have Wawa which was a hit when it first came. Where I used to live had Sheetz which I like better then Wawa

It's how CLEAN the Buc-ee's bathrooms that makes me a fan. AZ is getting one next year on the west side of the Phoenix metro area and I CAN'T WAIT! :-)

I know this is a zombie thread, but a general question on prepaying for gas anywhere.

I've never prepaid, always use CC at the pump. But, if you prepay and go in to the store and think $50 will do it. You go back to the car and you can only get, let's say, $42 in. Do you have to go back to the store to get an $8 refund?

Yes, you do. Most of the time I can figure it pretty close by my fuel gauge, but sometimes, like when a hurricane is coming, I want it completely full. So I go in and pay, pump until it’s full, and go in to get my change.

I see. Thanks for the quick reply, @fla4fun
