Bubble Tea

I hate the stuff and call it Booger Tea. Yuck. And we have them EVERYWHERE in the city, particularly down near where I work. I'm right by Chinatown and you can't swing a cat without seeing a shop selling it.

Yuck yuck yuck yuck yuck.

:rotfl: We call it Booger Juice. It's just gross.

ITA w/you, Rick! That stuff is downright nasty w/a capital Nas!

Ocean city just opened a sushi/bubble tea place on 9th street for those interested. I recently tried thai iced tea and love it.

Around here, it's called Boba tea (Another poster said that too, I think). I confess, it is my new addiction. I thought it would be gross but I like it. The "Bobas" are the texture of gummy bears but a bit slimey on the outside. Sounds so disgusting. The ones I've had have the slightest hint of licorice flavor, which I would normally hate.

I guess, in theory, I don't like it....slimey, licorice etc...but for some crazy reason I really do! LOL!

Sounds like you either love it or hate it. For those who hate it, is it just because of the texture of the bubbles or the taste of the tea or both? I don't think I'd have a problem with the bubbles and would love to find a place to get some.

I wish we had a place to try it around here. I think I read I might be able to try it at AK also at the tea cart. It is on my list of things to try!

The tea is really, really sweet, so I don't like either part. They are also packed with calories.

It gives tapioca a bad name. :rotfl:

I like Bubble tea (also called Boba tea). I've only had the green tea kind (comes in many flavors), not the milk tea. I've heard some people say that the milk tea gives them stomach problems. The tapioca pearls remind me of circles of jello.

Yes, Bubble tea always comes with a wide straw so you can get the tapioca pearls through them - somewhat of a coking hazard though?! What if you sip too hard and it comes up fast?

They have Bubble tea at several Asian restaurants and places that specialize in them, such as Lollicup (cryssi posted the link).

I've only had it once. The lady didn't give me the flavor or thing I asked for. I got some wierd slimy jello like squares

Well, obviously I love it (see tag and avatar, LOL). I prefer to get the teas without milk in them, my favorites are mango and passionfruit. As far as the tapioca is concerned, it's mostly just a texture rather than a taste thing. Some places overcook the tapioca and it turns out hard rather than soft which is not a good thing!

Bubble tea is definitely a love it or hate it kind of thing. It's worth trying at least once if you've never had it, at least for the novelty aspect of it. :)
