Is the refurb of BTMR really going to need over a year to complete?

Their schedules are normally quite accurate. Since nobody knows what needs to be done I would say yes, it should take the full time allotted.

Allegedly the ride is going to be retracked (similar to what happened with Disneyland's version) so, yes it would take that long to complete.

Other things could be playing into it as well. It’s possible that a refurb alone might take less time, but with the other construction that will be going on around it, it will take longer. It could be that with the new Cars area and the things beyond BTMRR, that access to BTMRR itself could be blocked or restricted during that time. I do think with all the other construction in that area that it is a good time to take it down for a major overhaul like installing new track that would have closed it for several months anyway.

I would say yes. As has been suggested here, the rumors are that they are going to put new tracks down on the ride, we have also heard rumors that they will be adding the explosion effects to the top of the hill inside Big Thunder as well. While the ride is down for refurbishment, I wouldn't be surprised if they take the opportunity to do some work on the new Cars land area without having to disrupt Big Thunder and its operations.

I had some hope that it would be open when we go in Jan/Feb 2026. Then I read here somewhere the construction permit goes into March (if I remember correctly). So I doubt we get to ride while we are there. I’m holding out hope because they do open rides earlier than expected sometimes.
