Has anyone down the Backstage Magic and added on additional nights at the end to have a few extra days at Disney and not stayed at the Grand Californian?

We are going next October, but I just can't see paying to stay the extra nights at the Grand Californian, it's soooo expensive.

Can anyone recommend somewhere else that would be worth making the move to for a couple of additional nights?

It depends on what you're looking for. There are ALL MANNER of hotels all around the DLR area. I'm rather fond of the Annabella Hotel. Walking distance to the parks, with an approach through Downtown Disney. Nothing fancy, but comfortable and clean and reasonable. A DLR Good Neighbor hotel.

There are lots of hotels in the DL area. You'll find good info on this over on the DISBoards DisneyLand Forum.

As far as it relates to ABD, a few things to keep in mind:
  • Your park admission ends on the last day of your tour. You'll need to buy separate admission for the extra days.
  • Your return transportation to the airport is only valid if you extend your stay through ABD. If you book yourself into another hotel, you'll also need to get your own transportation to the airport.
  • You will need to arrange for your own transportation from the GC to your hotel.
